;) The commute today was about perfect. Slight tailwind the whole way. Mid-70's. Clear sky. Near the end of the commute I was approaching a traffic signal (the same one where I almost caught the right hook the other day). There was a guy on a road bike waiting for the red light to change to green. When I was about 10 yards behind him the signal changed and he took off. He was riding some kind of road bike. I never got next to him so I have no idea what it was he was riding. He had all the gear on. I stayed behind him for a bit, figuring that maybe I can learn something. It was pretty obvious that he had been at it a while. His calves were extremely well defined. Not an ounce of fat on them at all. His cadence wasn't particularly fast, but he was making good time - enough that I had to push myself a bit to keep up on my hybrid. About .25 miles down the road there was a tree that had fallen across the road during the night. He looked over his shoulder to make sure it was clear for him to dive over two lanes to the left to avoid the hazard and that's when he noticed me. I never head him shift gears, although I don't know if I was close enough to have heard it if he did. It looked to me like he added about two ounces worth of effort to the easy lope he was maintaining to that point. He dropped me like a hot rock. All in all it was a good commute this a.m. |
93 degrees in the afternoon shift.
Sprint-slow-sprint-slow ... I have to do a test run on the road bike to see if I have improved any. |
Yesterday was my first time riding my 16km/10mi commute two consecutive days. My ride in to work was great - a personal best time - but the ride home was a SLOW, hard slog into the wind. Was 8 minutes slower than my best time home. Hoping to get three consecutive days next week... :0

Very nice morning yesterday, saw 5 other bikers out (I think that's a record!). Got the dust blown off me by a guy on a road bike, and I thought I was moving at a pretty good clip (for me anyway) at around 19 mph. We said our good mornings, nice enough bloke. Ride home was quick with a nice tailwind

Good commute today and did an extra 25km because the weather was really nice. Also, took in a nice Sunday brunch next to the river!

Also, it was the first time I ever cooked on a Schwenker ... looks like this ... it's an interesting concept. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=255233 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schwenker |
Strong STRONG headwind on the way home, and the wind couldn't decide what way it was going. About 18mph with gusts up to thirty. Going over the pedestrian paths were brutal. On the plus side, I saw a deer on the way in to work today. It was pretty cool that it didn't run seeing me pass by it on the side of the road.

A beautiful warm morning at 66f (19C). The warm nights are good for me and my tomatoes. It was a nice ride in, although my short cut was taken away by some early road work at the entrance to a college where I cut through. I was able to go cross country to a parking lot, then back on
track. Hopefully, they finish up today. There is nothing like an early morning surprise. |
Oh man, nice warm, wet and late. I leave one hour late on Monday mornings in the summer because I have to stop on the way to work before 6am. But the traffic was light, it was raining, just ahead of me. Close enough to cause tire spray, but not enough to cover my glasses. Smelled great, it hasnt rained here for a while. beautiful ride in.

A very nice ride in today, the temp was cool but I did not take a coat as I want no extra stuff in my bag on the way home. This is the first time I have ridden in a week due to being sick last week and also a lot of pain in my hip area. I am not sure what that is from. Anyway I was very happy to be back on my bike this morning and riding in to work.

It was so warm and humid this morning that I hardly noticed the rain when it started halfway on my commute to work -- I was already soaked with sweat. Took it easy because this is my 9th straight day riding, including 125 miles of loaded touring over the weekend, so my legs were a bit tired. Tomorrow is an off day because I have a dentist appt.

73F/23C, sunny, a bit humid. A sad ride for me. We had to let our 16 year-old dog go yesterday morning. Just getting out of the house felt good. There are reminders of the old girl everywhere there.

Wasn't raining when I got out of bed, but was raining before I started riding, and had a nice light rain all the way in. No wind. Golly, do disc brakes ever squeal when they're wet!

Life is dam sweet!! ;) |

Gonna be a hot one on the way home.

God damn escalators, decided since its so hot on my way to my fathers for a visit this morning to take the subway up from Queen to St. Claire. Anyways, sure enough, there are narrow one person sized escalators going up, so I take it, and my wheel turns, hits both sides of it, pushes the bike down onto me, with the pedal striking my right leg.
All I hear is a CRACK! and being unable to bend my knee, so I push my bike straight, push my leg down to the ground and twist it to the left, the opposite direction of where it went with the bike, I hear another CRACK! and my knee became somewhat bendable. Get to my fathers, organize a few things I had left there, took a couple of things in my pannier, knee started to get stiffer and stiffer as I walked on it. So kept walking on it as sitting down made it lock up again. Finished what I had to do. Anyways, its sore as hell, stiff too, took me twice as long after I left my fathers to bike home then it normally would as I couldn't bend my knee with much speed or strenght, just enough to make the left pedal ready for another push with the good leg. Today was first commute on my new bike, a Torker KB2. I thought it would be slower then my previous Torker with an 8 speed Alfine hub bike but the KB2 with a 2 speed hub was actually 10 minutes faster over 17 miles.

It was a dry warm dark morning at 74f (23c), when I got up, had tea, cereal, and packed for the day, then as soon as I stepped outside the door, it opened up. I grabbed a rain coat, extra sox and gloves, and on my way. It slowed a bit when I got closer, a glimpse into what the day will be like. No ligthning coming in though, and that is alwys a good thing.

We could sure use some rain here, no real rain in weeks it seems like.
|
I took off that spandex like brace this morning, and it feels as comfortable walking on the leg now as it did yesterday with it. So there is some progress. :D

The ride in this morning was very nice, it was a quiet ride. Nothing out of the ordinary. I did bring raingear because it is supposed to rain this evening and you know the weathermen, so better have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

i've been timing my 10-mile commute so that i can catch a bus for the last 3-4 miles (i'm lazy). the last 2 days i've missed the bus by a block, and made a game about playing catch up. was never able to pass the bus, but 2 days ago was able to catch up. my laziness is making me stronger, methinks.
overall the commute was great today. first ride of the year that was humid in the morning (fine with me, i can't stand being cold).

Dodged the rain on morning and afternoon commutes yesterday. It was pouring at 4:15 pm but the radar showed a "window" in the showers, so I headed out at 4:30 and hammered all the way home. The rain had just stopped when I left work and started again right after I got home. I got just as wet from sweating, but I enjoy the challenge of outrunning rain storms. I have a dentist appointment today, so had to drive but it's just as rainy again. My legs needed a break anyway because I had ridden 9 days consecutively, including a 125-mile loaded tour last weekend. Hopefully this weather system will clear out by tomorrow morning.

A nice ride this morning. Some cooler and drier air has made it's way into the South Florida area overnight so it was 70 degrees at 7am and school is finally out, so my morning traffic is much reduced. The Giro is doing well as a daily commuter, and I had a great ride with light breezes from the NE.

Leaving at 6am, pouring down raining, wife looking at me like I am crazy, all at the same time motioning me to come in the truck with her, and let her drive me to work. Well, this 72 year old man would have none of that. All I did was switch up to another bike, don rain gear, and off. Now here is the fun part. Temps are up at around 80+, so it is warm, I am on the flats, looked down at the bike computer, and it states I am doing an 23mph on the flats.. Kicked it little harder after that.. I whispered to myself, "this chit is fun".... ;)
Need I say more!! :D |
I broke a sweat riding an easy pace at only 65F. Got to work and checked the humidity-78%. The good thing about the weather here is that as temps go up, humidity drops.
|
Left home at 7:00 to a slight headwind and 45f temps. Turned around after a block because the water bottles were left behind, loaded them up, restarted, rolled in on a combination of streets and trail, arrived at 7:38, great ride.
|
Last night strong headwinds on way home 17mi.
This morning rode 6m to gym then realized I forgot my gym shoes then rode 14m to work. |
