Not a good commute day for me. We've had a cold front lingering over the state and storms keep popping up with extremely high humidity. Made it to work in the morning without getting rained on but was totally wet from sweat. On the ride home, it started raining as soon as I left the office and pretty well soaked me in first 5 minutes. Then my tires slid out on a corner only 1/4-mile from home, and I went down. No damage to my bike or serious injuries to myself, but I have nice patch of road rash covering my hip. Strangely, however, it didn't put a hole in my shorts or jersey.

A very nie morning at 65f (18C). I am feeling the darkness starting to creep back in the morning and the birds are not singing when I leave.

I had a nice commute in this am, the temp was a little warmer this morning at 64f degrees. I also did the longer ride home the other evening so that was very nice. I am trying to increase my distance for riding. I am also going to ride a longer ride home this evening if there are no storms.
I forgot to mention the other morning as I was riding to work I saw a deer that someone had hit. The police was guarding it, in the median strip along the road. Not a very nice sight.

I took the regular streets in today, not wanting to deal with all the puddles and storm debris on the Greenway. And pedestrians and morning cyclists, to be honest. It's shorter, faster riding, but takes the same time within a couple of minutes. Still, a good ride.
I own the city of Roswell an apology btw. They already had the boardwalk-smashing tree cleaned up and the area repaired last night, and I said it might take them weeks. Kudos to Roswell!

Our cool, wet weather continues and is a welcome relief from the 100+ weather we had for 10 days. The roads were actually dry when I left for work but were wet for the second half of my commute with light rain by the time I got downtown. Took it easy on the corners after sliding out on a traffic circle in my neighborhood yesterday. The road rash on my hip is not as bad as it looked at first and no damage to my bike other than some torn bar tape and scratches on my shift levers.

Got my second flat in three days a block from work, first one was in the front, this one is in the rear. I had a pretty good streak going, about six weeks without a flat. That's good considering the amount of glass there is on the roads around here. There is alot of new glass since July 4th. The marked bike lane that I traveled down this morning looked like it had smatterings of new glass on it. Thank you drunken Morons of America.
It's all good, I have my patch kit with me. New tires are in my future in the next few weeks.

Another sweet ride in, cooler temps and dry. Last night coming home I was amazed at the volume of bike commuters out, love it.

It was nice other than the fact that I rode on some new tires I just installed that seemed like a deal but felt like riding on two flats.

Rarely do I have cyclist heading same way. Today, I saw two ladies in full kit in front of me... kind of going slow it seems as the speed was less than my endurance zone (today morning is low endurance ride for me). They stop and drink water, what not... I pass them by. About 5 minutes later, I hear... on your left. Okay, the ladies caught up and I yield.
Well, guess what happened... they slow down pretty much as soon as they pass me and I am kind of stuck behind them (yeah... riding 2 abreast, etc). To pass them would mean more power than I am willing to dial for morning to work, and the speed they were going at was on my power output for recovery ride -_-...
I suppose I at least didn't mind the views up front
I thought Cat 6 was all male thing?

28*C, headwind of 50km/h. Avg speed dropped to 20km/h from 25-28 normal. Spent most of the 16km home in the lowest gears. My first time riding 3 consecutive days to work and back. Tomorrow *might* make 4.

I got myself involved in an impromptu game of chicken with a cyclist on the ride back home. He was riding with a partner, in the opposing lane. We saw each other coming a long ways away. I kept my course, being on the right side of the trail. The other cyclist didn't budge. As we got closer all kinds of thoughts crossed my mind, but I just got a sense from this guy, clad in full spandex on a road bike, like his riding partner, that he saw me, wearing knickers and a workout T, eyeglass mirror, on a hybrid with a rack and panniers, as someone who should get out of his way, he being an elite serious cyclist and all. For safety's sake, and normally I always err on the side of safety, I should have yielded. But I suppose I'm as prone to machismo as the other guy, so I held my ground and actually sped up. Finally with a couple of seconds to spare he veered a little closer to the center of the trail and we zipped by each other frankly too close.
I know logically I shouldn't have gotten into this, but something in me just wasn't going to let a guy riding like he's above common etiquette have his way. I know speeding up was stupid and dangerous... but somehow I think if I had to do it over again I might have done the same thing. Yeah something worse might have to happen for me to learn my lesson, but if there's such a thing as karma it'll happen to that other guy first.

A nice cloudy morning at 71f (22c). Flat tire going home yesterday, but I was close enough to finish walking. I ran the tire and found nothing, but the tube had pin hole in it. That kind of stuff drives me a little silly, as I am sure that there is something in the tire or wrong with the tire to get a flat.

No more commutes or other rides until at least July 24 as my wife are heading to California for vacation. Hopefully the weather will be a welcome relief from what we've been having in NC lately. Last week, the temps were topping 100 F every day and this week it's been cooler but with extremely high humidity and storms every day. I've been looking at weather reports for places we're going and their high temps are usually lower than our overnight lows, with much lower humidity as well.

For the first time, I commuted on my 'sporty' bike. I shaved about 10 minutes off my time. I guess I need to get stronger!
Also for the first time, I managed to ride through some vomit on the road, right where the open door of a parked car would have been if there had been a car there. At least, I'm pretty sure that was what it was. I'm guessing someone's hangover got the better of them as they pulled out. Fortunately I had just turned on to that road, and it was slightly uphill, so I wasn't moving all that fast, and I don't ~think~ any got on me. But still, gross! A new reason to take the lane!

Weather was great this morning, but the idiots were out in full force on the road.. i don't think anyone was actually paying attention to their driving this morning

The ride home was tough: 96 degrees and a 10-15MPH headwind. Still, it beats driving home in my 10 year old car with lousy AC and having to do battle with the drivers in our town.

Road about 3.5 miles from home to train station.building up to a 15 mile commute. doesnt sound like much but for me it is. haha. saw a car preyed goose yesterday. thought about the difference between car strike versus bike strike.

I drove in today to stage stuff for tomorrow's commute; I haven't done that in years but I have been out of the office for over a week and have a backlog of cargo, and I really want to take the roadbike tomorrow (no rack, so no panniers, so cargo must fit in 11L shoulder bag). And after a week out of the office not biking more than a mile at a stretch I *really* need to bring my lunch tomorrow rather than eat out so I need all the cargo space I can free up.
