Over 12 pages of stuff now from Slim.
Slim's Point: Other people should not get to exist if slim doesn't want it. Hybrids are OK because HE says so... Only slim has just cause to live his live the way he wants and everybody else in the world should cower towards his wishes even if his wishes change over time.

Everybody else: Nobody is defending smoking, only the right to smoke and the right not to have to be judged by people like the above.

Rinse Repeat..

End of thread...

Apparently Mr. 0257's satire is not only flying over your head, but more likely in geostationary orbit.

I believe that his tongue was firmly planted in his cheek. The tell is his parting line "Isn't rationalization fun." His proposition is absurd enough that I doubt that he actually does smoke in real life.

You're so cute when your mad.

I can't believe that in 2012, there are still some people around, who think that public smoking is some kinda "right" that has to be defended.

I'm choosing to believe this is all still just tongue and cheek and making light on all this.... otherwise it's time for a civil liberties conversation and this is definitely not the right forum. Update: I am having my pre ride smoke, thank you all for riding Bike forums the exits are at the top of the page, in case of emergency walk away from the computer, now please buckle in and put on your thick skins.. it's going to stay bumpy.

Yeah Right...So therefore, I guess we shouldn't take the environment seriously nor the lives and health of an unsuspecting non-smoking group of people, who would prefer not to breathe or inhale toxic gases. Noxious fumes that only exist, due to the stupid and ignorant behavior of the few.

You sir, need therapy!

I wish there was still enough freedom left to allow a bar to allow smoking inside.

I think some kind of co-op private club might be possible. It would have to be a co-op because then the barkeep and cocktail waitresses wouldn't be employees, they'd all be owners. That might still run afowl of local laws which use the terminology "workplace", however. Tricky stuff.

Private club to make it so that you're not "endangering the public".

I think there's still smoking in bars allowed in Idaho, but that's 350 miles away.

Before the ban we had plenty of smoke free bars to choose from. Clearly a case of too much legislation!

On the "environmental" front, outlawing smoking in bars has had an adverse effect on the environment. Most bars are heating their patios all winter long. You know how good for the environment it is to HEAT the OUTDOORS?

Too much legislation, or too much smoke?

Hmmm.....

- Slim

PS.

"Smoke-free" means an atmosphere where there is NO SMOKING!

It doesn't mean, you're free to smoke!

They've found a couple ways around it here, one bar I used to frequent has a ring of propane outdoor heaters around it's porch, and since it's pointed into the back of the property, you can have your drinks out there too.

In SF, I believe this got shut down, a club was renting a party bus and parking it either in front of or behind the club and using that as it's smoking section.

I know originally (And this may have changed) with the Ca smoking laws, a family business, or a coop as you described could indeed be a smoking establishment if everyone who worked there signed waivers (wasn't applicable to regular businesses though).

Oh, and when I lived in Ohio that law had passed but they still smoked in bars.. the bars still put out ashtrays and match books and ran a strong ventilation system, wonder if they still get away with it?

All the non-smokers could've moved to Corvallis years ago. They had the ban in place years before the statewide ban was enacted in Oregon.

I'm kinda surprised the private club thing hasn't been tried in Portland, or at least I haven't heard about it. I like that party bus angle. Hilarious!

Last time I was in the Bay Area they weren't adamant about the smoking restrictions at the Stork Club in Oakland for a couple of shows I attended. That was kinda nice.

If I'm at a show, it's usually the rock or metal scene and most of the venues I go to don't give a rats ass about smoking admittedly, the main in one is a giant outdoor ampitheater but it's still nice to be able to smoke with police around and not fret over "the man".

Well, if this thread shows anything, it's that smoking is more widespread and socially acceptable than I thought it was.

I for one abhor cigarette smoking. Both my grandfather and mother died from it and I think that it's affected me being raised around it, and possibly endured it in the womb. I find that the smoke is so toxic that even dozens of yards downwind of a smoker, a tiny whiff will cause a tremendous reaction, like I cannot get air.

But for the life of me, I don't understand SlimRider getting so upset at something that he can't change. There are too many bigger problems on the road each day.
