Bikes: Gary Fisher Marlin, Bike E rx, Diamondback Centurion Expert TG, early 80's steel bike

just got hit yesterday night.

So, I was on my ride home when I say this car coming up one these parklot exists. I looked at him and he was looking to his left. I was already halfway past him when he came up on me. All my reflectors and lights does no good if they don't look. Well, he didn't try to stop, and he clipped my rear tire. I got up and started to ask for his info. He said, "let me get my insurance." Then, takes like a bat out of hell. Another motorists sees him take off and chases him. I guess he realized someone saw him and so he returned. By this fime, I'm already on the phone with 911.

I went to the hospital, just to be checked out. Nothing broken, but the doctor thinks I will be in a lot of pain. He gave me vicadian(sorry if misspelled). I landed palms down and never hit my head. Plus, I hit my shin on my bike. So I'll be walking with a limp because my shin hurt like hell.

Here in las vegas, they're not playing with cyclist/pedestrian accidents. I was told there were 2 more that night before mine. Both were fatalities.

My only question now is.....
Will their insurance pay for my repairs?

Sorry to hear this happened to you.

It sounds like you got a police report. That's good.

I'd talk to an attorney. Most often they will work on a contingency basis. Just remember, that guy's insurance company is not interested in giving you any more than the have to. They have lawyers, you should too.

If you can prove that you need your bike for transportation (work, ect) you should get some kind of compensation. He hit you and in a car on car accident he would be at fault with full responsibility to take care of the damages. You health insurance should take care of the E.R. visit....I agree with scroca

Did you get the witness information for the guy who chased him down? I'm not usually a litigious person, but for an attempt at fleeing the scene of a collision with injuries, I'd do my best to take someone for everything I could. Police reports, witness' statements, doctor's statements and hospital bills, lawyers; the whole nine yards.
Some people need punched in the wallet before they'll learn that there are consequences to their actions.

Sorry to hear this.

The fact that he tried to take off is all you need to know about whether or not you can trust this guy. If he hadn't seen that the jig was up, then he'd have left you hanging out to dry.

Don't have any dealings with him at all. You want to see a lawyer on this one.

Wow. Hit and run.... leaving the scene of an accident. Crap happens, but this guy was a total jerk. Get a copy of the police report. Get his insurance info (if he has any) and deal directly with his insurance company, if possible. I hope you are OK. vicodin is addictive. Don't take it on an empty stomach (hallucinations). Be careful. I hope you have a speedy recovery.

His insurance should cover the cost of a rental bike while you get yours fixed.
No rental bikes available? I guess that's THEIR problem, so make them provide a rental car.

Bikes: Fixed Gear

This happened to a friend of mine while he was riding home from work. He was passing the ghetto part of town. A car was stopped at a stop sign. My friend proceeded to carry on and the driver looked at him and he looked at the driver. When he was in front of the car, and the driver put on the gas. Some people just don't care. The car kept going so it was a hit and run. My friend tore his pedal strap, and popped a tube. His back wheel was also destroyed. He was also sore for days after that. It was about 5 in the morning at this time so there were no cars around. You're lucky that you got some pain killers, witnesses, and a case! Best of luck, ride safe!

Sorry to hear that. Good for the other motorist who chased him.

You said he was looking to his left? Maybe I'm reading it wrong but it sounds like you were approaching him from the right i.e. riding on the left side of the road. Please correct me. Which side of the road were you riding on?

Get rid of all relevant information in this thread right this second, and do not post any more specifics about the accident until you have an adequate settlement IN FULL.

Lawyers do look on the internet for people blabbing about their accidents, and it will be used against you.
