Ok just got a 2007 Specialized Sequoia Need some fender and rack help.

I just picked this up and I am super excited. I ride my CAAD10 during the nice days and got tired of not riding. I picked it up for $200 so this gives me A little extra for spoke fix and fenders and rack. Here is my problem, it does not have stuff for fenders or rack. Since this is my beater I really don't care what I have to do to get full fenders on it but I don't want to use bailing wire. I hope at least someone on this board has one and can tell me how they did their fenders and rack. I also got the magic shine light and blinky tail light, that is going to be mounted permanent . So what do you guys suggest because I am open for anything.

Bikes: surly cross check

The fenders are the easy part, they can be easily secured to seat stays and fork using p-clips. P-clips are readily available at most hardware stores, it's the kind of thing you would use to secure electrical conduit to a wall. Those should be plenty strong enough to hold fenders.

As for the fenders themselves, your sequoia doesn't look like it has a ton of room for fenders, but as long as you stick with a pretty small fender you should be able to cram them in there. I would suggest something in a polycarbonate so you can easily trim them without leaving sharp edges just in case you have to do some custom cuts. Maybe something like this https://ecom1.planetbike.com/7058_5.html

As for the rack, you could use a heavy duty version of the same p-clip, but in my experience they tend to slide down the tubing when loaded and unloaded daily.

As for the rack, are you planning on using a trunk or panniers? I ask because some rack designs lend themselves better to using rack trunks than others. You might check out one of the Axiom Streamliner series of racks.

I did hear about those today. I had some nash bar bags on one of my commuters and I really liked them. I need more room for shoes change of clothes and lunch. I also can get my index finder in between the tire and brakes so there def room just no mounts.

Now that I got a chance to look at it more closely I did find it has hidden mounts.

Nice of them to plug the holes up.

The tops are plane as day don't know how I missed that.

As for fender clearance it looks pretty good.

no mounts on the front

I will prob take it in to the lbs and have them go through it. There is grease caked in the gears and everything. It also has a broken spoke that need to be replaced. I should be riding in the next week or so. It def needs the yellow and blue tires to disappear.

That's supposed to be a carbon fork, so no drilling etc.
I think if I bought it for $200, I'd clean it up a bit and sell for a good profit, since it was supposed to have been a $770 bike.
Get something else for a beater bike.

The bike is pretty beat up and it has scratches all over it. It also looked like it was dumped the shifter tops are really scratched up too. Just going to keep it. It should ride pretty good for a long time. I am going to pull my armidillos off my CAAD10 and put them on this bike and get some summer tires for that. I was just hopping that someone already did the hard work to find out what works well with this bike.
