Bike-to-Work week, May 6-10 (er... 13-17)
If you presently don't commute
, are you willing to give it a try during this week? You might find (as most commuters already know) that is a very enjoyable experience.
And you get extra miles on the bike.
If you do commute, are you talking about this with your neighbors or coworkers? Maybe you'll find a commuting partner.
I'm the only bike commuter where I work. In fact I think I'm the only person who owns a bike.
But I'm putting up notices around the building. Maybe someone will want to join me, even if they're on their kid's bike.

Riiight, my cow-orkers commute to work on a bicycle?!? They already think I'm nuts. I'd even be willing to bet that there's a secret pool going on the date that I get "offed" by a car.
I do try to make suggestions about the benefits of cycling though when the opportunity arises. They all think exercise comes from the latest fad pill or powder.

On the radio the other day, there was an ad blaring about yet another miracle diet-pill, enabling its users to "Lose weight without
strenuous exercise!" What I don't understand is that Americans, as a culture, worship youth and athletes, yet mostly refuse to act youthful (have fun) or engage in athletic activity?
[1] This has been my first serious commuting week, and I love it; had to drive today[2], but I've biked in three days so far this week, and I'm hoping the weather stays nice next week...
[2] I came dangerously close to bonking yesterday; came home and inhaled some fruit and a PB&J, plus almost a pound of fried chicken. Feel much better now. So today, I'm recuperating, and not riding 18 miles in freezing rain because...I'm a pansy.

You're right Andy. My mistake.
The League of American Bicyclists says it is May 13-17.
I was getting it confused with the Bike There! ride that is May 4. I was thinking it was scheduled on that date to "kick off" Bike-to-Work week the following week. Sorry folks.

I think the only exercise my coworkers get is pressing the button on the remote control.
Although they will occasionally push back from their desks and go out for a power lunch.
You say what is a power lunch?
Extra large coke and extra large fries with the double whopper.

My more cynical nature inclines me to think of "Bike to Work" week as "Business as Usual."

Ok, so I'm a little condescending...
