watching the radar

quitting time was an hour ago but I am way behind in work so no harm staying extra; the weather channel radar suggests the downpour might break up in 15-30 minutes; closer to 15 min I will easily get to my 7 yr old's after-school program before they close at 6; if it takes closer to half an hour to clear then I will be tempted to run lights on the way...

(or just HTFU and blast home in the downpour)

Don't know about Puget Sound, but around here it can be advisable to check for tornado warnings and the like. I've had a number of occasions when I stayed an hour or two just to avoid the flying debris.

Bikes: Too many to list here

If your on your way home enojy (if you live in a warm climate) otherwise, cold weather and rain are no fun without proper rain gear.

The radar website was spot-on! Got my window and had a nice ride home and child-collecting.

I'm addicted to the Weather Underground radar, though since I ride busses on my commute too it's not like I have that much choice in whether or not I ride in the rain.

Bikes: I have five of brikes

i too am adicted to the weather radar. it's not that i can't or won't ride in the rain, i just don't like it (meaning proper heavy down pour rain with lightning, crazy winds, and all of that. i don't give a crap about the drizzly stuff).

I can't imagine going back to the days of calling a local TV station's weather line each afternoon, hoping for some clues as to what to expect on the ride home. The www was something else when I first gained access to it, and found a weather site with a radar that was updated hourly. Wow!!!!

I've been known to watch the radar so that I can make sure to catch the downpour. I've waited up to 30 minutes at work so I could ride in the rain.

I walk out of house or work and look up to see clouds and wind direction and temp. Line up accordingly and carry rain coat if needed. I used to look at the thermometer on the bike comp but honestly it doesn't matter to me anymore. It is what it is and I need to go where I go...

I watch the radar before heading to work. Depending on how heavy the rain is or the amount of ambient lighting, I may have to hitch a ride to work and then hoof it home. If I make it to work and it's raining on the way home, oh well.

Hey HardyWeinberg - here is a much better radar site to use for us Puget Sounders. Brought to us by our friends at the University of Washington. I check it religiously before heading out.
