my new wheels!

Just picked this bad boy up today. 2009 Trek 7100. Payed 75$ cash as is. Going to be my daily rider. What do you think? Good deal?

Looks great. How is it mechanically? If the mechanics are great, I would say you got a great deal.

Considering the MSRP is about $440 new, and it's only a few years old, I think $75 is a heck of a deal.

And, it includes a rack, and trunk. Very good deal.

The rack and bag are both trek and it came with a heavy duty trek bike cable lock. Although the guy could not remember the combination to it. Hoping I can hack it because its better then the one I already have.

Also, were should the handlebars be set at height wise comparison to the seat? The previous owner has the handlebars way above the seat height and fills very uncomfortable to me. I'v never owned a hybrid before.

The handlebars and bar-ends should be set at the height & position that's most comfortable for you. At least that's how I set mine.

Trial & Error. Fine-tune it until it's perfect for you.

Well, got everything adjusted. Shew well over an hour. The previous owner had everything all wrong. Had the seat all the way down, handle bars up and back. The rack was against the seat so it wouldn't open evenly. The brakes needed adjusting. It fits me perfect and not a scratch on it. The tires are even 70% tread. I also some how managed to do some searching online and cracked the cable lock. I'm surprised because its a heavy duty Trek lock. I can't wait to get it out tomorrow for a few miles!!

No wonder the seller was selling it so cheap. Great snag!

Or, as seems possible, given the 'can't remember the combination' lock, it might have been stolen?

I hope not, but I'd say you got a great deal!

not stolen, the combination lock was inside the bag. Unless he stole it and and neatly put the lock inside the bag. He was a guy in his late 30s moving to Colorado from Indiana so he was just getting rid of everything. Kinda understandable.

Plus he said he didn't ride it in 2 years, and last night he sent me the combination code after I figured it out. So that is proof enough that it was not stolen.

What about the saddle? Does it look like its leaning back to far? It does appear to be but I think its a illusion being the bike is leaning on the kick stand. I'll have to put some miles on it and fine tune everything I'm sure.

And the springy seat post...

Replace those, and you'll have a great commuter.

I used to have big, 'comfy' saddles, too - until I tried a Serfas RX. Some even consider this saddle to be too big - but for me, it's been perfect. No more numbness & soreness.

Oh I agree the post has to go, the seat will be fine until I come across a good deal on one. The seat post is stupid, I dont understand why they even bother wit them. I guess it catches the eye of average people who ride bikes. Must be a marketing thing, drawls people in.

Also just think, the previous owner before had a gel seat cover over this seat, lol it looked like a sofa on a stick. I took that off as soon as I got back.

For 75 bucks, it's great.

You will need to make a couple of changes to it, well I hope you will anyway!

The sofa on a stick is very funny!

"I don't need a full suspension bike. This seat post will absorb all of the shocks & vibrations!"

Something harder will be more comfortable, even if it seems like it shouldn't. A lot of us love our Brooks B17s, ride yours a while and see what you think of the comfy saddle.

I'm sorry but I will not pay that much for a seat, those are sweet and maybe if they was 50$ I would. I'm not going to buy something that its price is based of on popularity.
