Bikes: I have five of brikes

when the weather allows it, i commute on my road bike. though i've never ridden it in a bike race, so i guess it's not a "race bike", but she's still a quick little titanium pony.

I don't ride a race bike to work. Nor do I drive a race car to work.

Bikes: everywhere

I've ridden my '80s race bike to work and back a LOT!

Often fredded out with lights and a rear fender, though.

i will never be able to wrap my head around why some people actually seem to care about the choice of bicycle that other people make for themselves.

ride whatever works for you.

that is the only rule.

You can ride a race bike to work, but know that everyone is secretly laughing at you behind your back.

Hell ya, how's the ride on the SST? I bought a 2012 SST 3.0 since it looks like my dream bike (Bianchi Oltre). I commute on 3 other bikes, storage at work is a crap so I wouldn't want to leave it laying around.

Bikes: '11 Allez Comp, '09 Pinarello Pista

I ride my only bike to work. While not overly racey, its far from commuter. But I still have a seat bag/pump/etc for when i get a flat. I commute with backpack, jersey/bibs, and have a good time hauling to/from work.

I will say though I'm humbled at the people that commute on commuters and other bikes with smaller chain rings. the last .6 mi of my commute is nearly 8% (ugh).

Bikes: everywhere

As your trip into work goes above 12 miles or so, it becomes exponentially dumber to ride anything but a race bike, IMO

FWIW, most of the guys I race with commute by bike, usually on their "A" bike. If you're a racer with a full time job and family, incorporating training into your commute is the only way to get the saddle time necessary to be competitive. For me, that means some days I'm doing solo intervals, other days doing the local weeknight hammerfest, and other days taking a long mellow recovery detour.

There was a guy in the building I used to work at in downtown DC riding a super nice race bike with his name under the clearcoat on the frame. Got lots of WTF looks behind his back. Nice guy and all, but no one could fathom why he was riding it to work.

Bikes: Two wheeled ones

I do enough silly things people laugh at behind my back about where the bike I ride is the least of my issues.

Besides - I tend to look down on folks riding heavy POS bikes to work. Actually I look down on everyone who doesn't do exactly as I do

Bikes: Old Steelies I made, Old Cannondales

I always commuted on my race bike .... no reason not to for me. Carried my stuff in a backpack. I didn't commute in bad weather though. If I did, I'd probably switch to my rain/winter bike.

Here's a good example of some guys commuting to work on race bikes. Note the commuter shoes. Nothing wrong with this, because I think they are actually planning to race at some point.

But I'm not a "tool" right, since my "Race" bike is way too old?

Bikes: Trek 830 Mountain Track Drop bar conversion

As my friend who dislikes the term race bike says, any bike is a race bike if you ride it hard enough or fast enough.

I still don't think my Surly Long Hill Trucker counts as a race bike, though. :-)
