For low-light vis I strap a Black Diamond Icon 3w headlamp on my helmet. I set it to strobe for sunset, and 3w beam for darkness. This way, it shines wherever I look, and I can take the light with me whenever I make a stop, without having to un-strap it from handlebar hardware; plus I can use a headlamp for more than cycling (e.g., rummaging through my panniers or fixing a flat in the dark). It was a fraction of the cost of ridiculously overpriced cycling headlights, as well.

heat seeking?!! I'd prefer asshat seeking, and loaded with concentrated eau-de-long-dead elephant cut with a skunk chaser.

Any difference to consider for morning vs. night?

Monday morning it was freezing dark out already when I got up for my ride!

There's a lot to consider in lighting morning vs. night, especially if the sunrise occurs during your ride and especially if you are riding East into the sunrise. Cars coming up behind you will be blinded by the sunrise, and so either 1. You better have something very, very bright flashing rearwards to snag their attention; or 2. Get off the bike until the sun gets a bit higher. I have a 600 lumen front headlight (MiNewt 600 Cordless that is not in current use) that I put on the rear in flash mode (it attaches easily to the seat post) when I have to ride at that time in that direction, but I prefer to not ride at all until the sun is out of the cager's eyes.

If you're riding in the morning before sunrise, there's no special requirements or any differences I can think of -

Thanks, that is exactly what thought...I am more concerned about cars coming behind me vs a headlight.

I can choose to go whereever way I want basically because it is a recreational ride. I will just consider routes based upon the sun first then wind second now...

Good thing it wasn't of the flamethrower variety, or you could have had a hairless cat.

I can now confirm that the Lumina mount works perfectly with the MiNewt Cordless lights. It's very nice.
