Need opinions between the trek and jamis bikes.
Hi, I'm about to buy a new bike and i know nothing about the specifications. i want to the know difference between the 2011 Jamis commuter 2 (originally around $500, on sale for $420) and the 2011 Jamis commuter 3 (originally $800, on sale for $560) which one is better and which one is more worth the price? Also, i want to know what you guys think about the 2013 Trek 7.2fx which is $590 and not on sale. would you prefer, the trek or the jamis'? i want to get the trek more because it looks nice and it feels lighter, but the two jamis bikes are on sale and since its the end of the summer i want to take advantage of the sales. thanks!

I agree. If the Trek feels better, get that.
That said, I'd be surprised if it actually is much lighter. Probably the fenders make the biggest difference. The Trek has similar components to the Jamis Commuter 2, except for only having a single chainring (which I think is an advantage for the Jamis unless you have really steep hills on your route). Stiill, the geometry of the bikes is different enough that I'd definitely choose based on feel.
If you can find a 2012 Trek FX 7.2, you can probably get a deal on it. MSRP on the 2013 is $550, so your dealer can probably come down a bit.
The biggest difference between the two Jamis bikes is the internally geared hub on the 3. That's nice for keeping maintenance low, but it also adds a good bit of weight.

For a more even comparison, try the jamis coda sport alongside the trek Instead of the commuter. The jamis commuter weighs even more than the coda, which is steel and geared.
