Motorized vehicles must stop at red lights and stop signs because their mass and acceleration pose a significantly greater risk to other vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians. The differences between bicycles and vehicles is inescapable: people riding bicycles have greater lines of sight and audio cues that enable them to safely go through red lights and stop signs in overwhelmingly the majority of cases. This is not true for cars.
