I need some motivational chewing out

My office moved and I haven't commuted to work in a couple months because the commute route now sucks -- what once was a peaceful, refreshing and level 5.5 mile ride along park trails is now a noisy, 4.5 mile ride alongside a highway that is up and down hills.

I nee to get the mojo back again. Let me have it...

Gosh dang it! Do you want to be fat, miserable, and out of shape because of your whining?! OR would you rather be fat, happy, and in better shape with less whining?! I ride through the ghetto of South Phoenix six miles to work. It's gross with bums, trash heaps, scrap yards, junkyards, and aweful smells (seriously, it sucks). Suck it up!

Nothin' but love!

You actually admit to the world that you can't handle the new commute? I'd be running the other way with my tail between my legs if it were me. What a softie. Get out there tomorrow!!!

Bicycling is like wrestling an 800lbs Gorilla. You don't stop when you're tired, you stop when the Gorilla is tired.

HTFU and push it to the threshold every day.

I could chew you out because my commute consists of 11 miles one way of noisy highway, up and down hills, traffic lights etc. and I love it. But instead I will motivate you. Make the best of it and take it as a challenge in the morning and you'll be used to it in no time. You could also alternate your ride back home at night to a longer more peaceful route if that's possible. Other than that, maybe more weekend riding instead??

A noisy highway is the constant barrage of cars whirling by you on the left on route 1A.

Get your @$$ back to it because I would commute every stinking day if I had a 4.5 mile commute, even with hills!

When I bought my first house, I bought where I did because it was just a few minutes from my office. I wasn't cycling back then, and I'm kicking myself for it. In 2008 my office moved farther away, to what amounts to a near 30-mile round trip commute if I went by bike, on nothing but rural 2-lane roads with constant traffic doing anywhere from 30 to 50+ MPH and no shoulder. And hills, endless hills. Trust me, that's my only choice for routes. Only other connection is the interstate, where cycling is illegal.

The other day when I was off work I rode nearly half way to the office, and back again, about 13.5 miles, and it took me just over an hour. Did I mention there are hills? 4.5 miles, shoot I would make it in 20 minutes or less.

I hate riding next to a noisy highway. Is it possible you could go a more circuitous but quieter route? That's what I do

Just what sort of "highway" is this? How many lanes? How close are you actually to it? I know you may not want to reveal your location, but perhaps you could attach a screen shot from Google Street View showing the road you have to ride on?

Remember when you first started commuting? How much better you felt. How much better your attitude was. How you felt like doing something when you got to work and when you got home. How much more energy you had in general. So you stopped commuting and now you feel bad? Duhhh, I wonder why?!!!
