My bad - while a blog claimed the NYC racks were cast aluminum (and perhaps the beautiful, polished contest-winning prototype was), the designer says the installed racks are (galvanized? and rather rough looking) cast iron.

I just make sure to cable lock my frame and tires together, I've got a 5 foot cable. If they can get it off the post, they still have to carry it after that.

through whatever it's attached to in 20 seconds with a sawzall, throw it in the back of a van, and gone in under a minute.

Bikes: 1972 Schwinn super sport, heavy no name each cruiser

we just had some idiot try to turn in an entire bike rack,complete with locked bikes attached, at the local scrap yard

They also had aluminum covers for the inground garbage cans, until nearly every one was stolen and they had to go with fiberglass.
