and the English papers (tDM is really ish) are just as bad for popularizing this. it's probably an ironical/satirical look at lower-class American culture.

I was shocked after discussing it with my brother (recent father).

I actually think you should raise taxes, but for some inexplicable reason people still want to cut them further, hence my initial

To be fair, the aggressor in this violent situation probably needs psych help just as much as the drug abuser needs ... just ask anyone involved in any violent action as it's usually just as psychologically traumatic for both parties.
I understand. :-)
I work with a guy who has relatives in Ger. who share your observations.
Frankly, we could learn a thing or two from the German economy.

Need a testosterone check in this thread...
The other night, I dreamed someone stole the bars off my old POS 3-speed. Maybe a $20 part? And in the dream I planned to find the guy and beat the crud out of him. Not that I'm either big or tough. And it's not the $20. It was that someone would mess with my personal transport for a couple of bucks.

In waking life, I have a cooler head and would never plot revenge this way. But the dream shows that I sympathize with the impulse.

I have spent many years in places where junkies would break your car windows for a screwdriver or a crummy jacket they saw in there. They would put you out of a whole afternoon and a couple hundred bucks for an item of little or no value. They just don't give a flying coitus about anybody. Eventually, one tends to get fed up with it, and it becomes fun to think of correcting somebody's attitude by administering a little corporal punishment. OK, so in the cold light of reason, revenge like that is cruel and pointless. But I understand the impulse. We all should.

Mcdougal must have been a capable person to resort to that much violence. I certainly understand his rage. If the thief was confronting him after he apprehended him, then he got what he deserved. For me, I'm not a fighter, so, If that would happen to me, and would be lucky enough to catch up to him after the pursuit and get my hands on my bike, I would fight him if I could to get it back. But if and when I did get it back, the thief would get a lecture from me for sure if he sticks around long enough to hear it. Then I would call the authorities to report it.

if these bottom feeders were dealt with effectively, either as a public-health issue for their drug addictions or as a criminal issue for their crimes, we wouldn't even need to think about these things.

this highlights a failure of our system... a failure to treat, a failure to rehabilitate, a failure to just get them off the streets where they cause harm to normal everyday people in normal society.

in any case, they're out there. and if they mess with the wrong person, they put their miserable lives at risk. this isn't always about punishment... when you mess with someones bike, or someone else's car, or someone else's apartment, or someone else's backpack or purse... they will just flip out and ****ing kill you. it's really that simple. it's like an occupational hazard, but it often has nothing to do with punishment or revenge, and "normal" people can and do go there when they're pushed.

I agree, but you won't gain much traction with that narrative line here.

between the internet tough guy posts and the P&R posts, this thread has gone too far off the rails for redemption. Closing
