Smart roadways that glow in the dark

Maybe some of these innovations will benefit cyclists in the future.

" The Netherlands will start experimenting with photoluminescent paint on roads that charges in sunlight and then glows at night to denote lanes, traffic markers and even cold weather conditions."

And I was happy just to get a bike lane painted on my street.

Great idea! (typical of the Dutch!!)[SARCASM_ON] but here, in the USA, it will never be adopted as drivers will find it far too distracting, and likely to interfere with their texting and other important stuff they do whilst driving [/SARCASM_OFF]

In Brisbane we have some bike paths with small glowing lights to mark the lanes. I don't know if they're solar powered or mains but they are recessed into the concrete. Quite useful on the dark areas.
