I'm willing to forgive the front of the fender taking flight because I see how much coverage it provides at the back of the tire. The long drop to the bars looks out of place and I would loose the kickstand or trade it for a better one. Almost hot.

Is that a Wald Giant Delivery Basket? I've been thinking about getting one of those - are the holes already drilled up the supports so you can adjust the height of the bottom of the basket? I have one of the smaller Wald baskets and it's all tilted (see my post here) because the supports are so long.

I think that bike's paint job is pretty sweet, actually. :)

Do they not know about postmodernism in Germany? Slacker head tubes and more stable steering serve one purpose. Steeper head tubes and more responsive steering serve another. One isn't right and the other wrong. Having responsive steering isn't a symptom of poor bike fit.

Well, I'm an industry outsider, but this would actually surprise me a bit just because of how deeply discounted a lot of the CC frames are. When I talked to them while sorting out back-order status they said it came to them directly from Ridley.

I know for a fact that if I'd gone into my LBS and asked for this frame they wouldn't have sold it to me for anywhere near what I paid.

Suppose there are non exclusive distribution deals .. and they change ..
over time Colnago went through a number of different US distributors.

Thanks everybody for your comments! The front fender holder is actually bent, i'll see what I can do when i get home. The kickstand is combined with kids trailer hitch, and due to the funny shape of the dropouts i can't use other, more neat systems.

Well. Let me have another try -- here is my wifes commutouring, a perfect commuter I had in mind after building one for myself (the black one above). I like straight forks! (this one came together with the frame) :) Not sure how did yellow reflectors get there, long time they are gone since the photo was taken.

Does acidfast know that you have all of these bikes with drop bars in Germany?

Overhauled my right ergo and swapped out the red tape for some black on my commuter/cross last night. Other than the blue rims and the saddle, it's completely monochrome. Campy veloce on a bikeisland frameset rolling on 38mm continentals via ambrosia hoops. It's a double, but mity capable.

There have been many iterations of this bike, but I think this is going to be 'finished' for a while.

Points for the custom mud flap. Deductions for the anodized bits. I think I could rate it hot with the wheels but not the rack hardware.

That's not a custom mudflap- those are 40 year old bluemel's 'lightweight' (ha!) fenders.

Don't know what to tell you about the rack hardware, it was in the partsbin and I went for it. The rack matches the gold spacers in the campy cassette. http://i.imgur.com/esmE8.gif

Yes, that is the Wald "Giant Basket", and yes the struts are pre-drilled and you bolt the uppers and lowers together to get the height you need.

For a different bike, I was able to buy a kit that had just the struts, handlebar brackets, and hardware for the Giant Basket. I fit it to a smaller basket that had fixed-length legs that did not fit the bike well. It took a bit of DIY modification, but it worked. Just an idea if you like your current basket aside from how it fits your bike.

Thank you, sir. It was lovingly hand-splattered, mostly in the 1980s except for a few touch-ups and new paint on the chainguard when I rebuilt the bike two years ago.

Hmmm, I looked again at some of the Giant baskets, looks like the way they're made now they have fixed-length struts, but you can get a separate kit with the adjustable ones. Also, it looks like you can adjust the height at the handlebars as well?

I really want the giant basket, but I've been holding off because sometimes I take my bicycle on the bus and I don't know if it will fit on the racks on the front of the bus.

Yeah, racks and baskets with extreme angles always disturb me. You don't need a taller stem to level it out. What you need are shorter stays. I've found the Wald stays to be pretty pliable, so you should be able to hack them.

Use a hacksaw to shorten them to desired length. Smooth out the cuts with a file. Hammer down the curved part of the stays at ends where the new cut is so it is flattened. Drill new, appropriate sized holes with a power drill.

Also, the angle of the basket can be adjusted somewhat with the handlebar brackets. They don't necessarily have to be angled straight down as you appear to have them. If you raise them up so they are pointing in a more forward direction, it will raise the back end of the basket.

I've tried, I've even got locktite and have used old innertubes as shims, but within half a mile the rear of the basket is back down where it is in the picture. Sooner if I have any cargo at all in it. That's why I think I'm going to try the Giant Delivery basket - more cargo space, and the mounting brackets aren't as flimsy.
