Excellent suggestions all. I like the "100 Jackets" suggestion the best but I'll have to work up to it.

In the end what I did was stuff my jacket in a drybag that I have for kayacking and lash it to my commute bag on the rear of my bike. That allows me to compress it a bit (squeeze out some air) as well as keep it dry if it rains and I don't care if I get wet.

As I move forward I'll get a light weight jacket that is only for rain and windbreaking. The one I use now is insulated and I'd rather handle that with my other layers.
