Today was my first commute out of necessity--I drove yesterday and my car's alternator belt is almost shredded through. Last night I drove the old car towards home with all the electrical systems shutting down just as I rolled into the local shop's parking lot.

You wrote that you haven't commuted since it was the in the 70s so, at first, I mis-read that to mean, 1970s and then I realized what you meant, but went ahead with the (bad) comedy anyway.

I wish it was in the 70s (deg F) here, mornings still hover around freezing.

Commuted this morning since I'm ditching at 1 today. The temperature is supposed to get up to 63 this afternoon so I figure I'd take advantage of it and go for a long-ish ride.

So far: 20 miles (1.5 hours, hit a new top speed coming down one of the big hills near me - 40 mph - I got to close to the bottom where the road curves and I see a 35 mph speed limit sign, oops! I've never heard of a bicyclist getting a speeding ticket so I just kept going to see how long I could keep that pace - for the record I lost it after 1/2 mile beyond the curve when I hit another incline

Ended up only riding a 5 mile detour home, due to the sky threatening rain... End of the day, put about 45 miles on my bike yesterday.

It felt too good this morning to waste it on the Greenway (path) so I took to the Windward Pkwy route instead and put the hammer down. The drivers took it pretty well, most of them, although as usual there were a few tight passes.

Even riding throughout the winter my fitness takes a hit over the months of cold weather. You feel it on the rollers, that you want to gut it out to get over and recover on the way down, but you find yourself downshifting instead. On the bright side I feel stronger almost daily, as long as I keep the effort up, so right now I just want to get out and ride. I'm glad it's Friday.

Nice ride in this morning, it felt great to be able to take off my jacket and ride in without it.

There were some crazies out this morning.

The first was a guy who signaled to turn right and needed to cross the bike lane. Great and everything, so I signaled and went left behind him. Waiting for him to turn, making eye contact in his mirror. Then he wildly gestures for me to get into the bike lane and not tot be in the "car" lane. Meanwhile traffic is piling up behind us and I am getting scared of someone rear ending us since he was fully stopped.

The second guy was at a stop light. I was first in the go straight or turn left lane at the stop light. There was a bike lane with a slower cyclist to my right. The guy in the car felt I was in his way at the stop light and that I should only be in the bike lane. So he let me know by laying on his horn for about 30 seconds straight. I looked to make sure he wasn't going to nudge me, other than that I just said to the other cyclist, "at least I will be happy when I get to work and he will get there angry." We had a chuckle and went on our way at the green, to more horn blasting. At least he turned left and did not follow me.

There were a few other idiots, but not as notable.

Otherwise it was a nice ride, warm with no wind.

Wow, that's weird, why would the guy care if you went behind him, which just makes it easier for him to make his turn? Some people...

I have to say, my commuting in Surrey has actually been pretty good lately; I can't say there has been any malice directed toward me for some time. There is a section just south of 64th Ave on 168th Street heading south where there is no bike path (maybe 200 meters or so), so when the light turns green I just take it easy before the road narrows, and by then the cluster of cars are gone so I can hammer a bit to reach the point where it widens again before more traffic comes from behind again. After that there is a "bike path" pretty much the whole way home.

Yeah, 15 (59 Fahrenheit) feels pretty good with the sunshine.

Bad air today, so I left early and rode slowly. Got to work feeling remarkably relaxed. I think I need to do that more often.

68F / 18C and lots of other bikes out...I counted five on my way in which is a lot for my route.

Pollen is reaching mega-levels here in NC. I went on a 50-mile rec ride with friends on Sunday, and we were all coated in yellow dust after a few miles of riding. I have never seen the pollen so thick. Fortunately, it seems to have eased off a bit this morning, and the forecasted rain tomorrow should clear the air for a day or so.

61F and a 13mph tailwind. Made it to work in record time. It was also my first day riding in shorts instead of pants. Now I can show off my calves at work.

On Sundays I usually meet some running friends close to my office for a run. Yesterday I decided to bike commute to the meetup. 11 miles biking, 10 miles running, 11 miles biking made for a pretty good workout and a bonus commute day.

A bit of a headwind on the way in this morning, but overcast and comfortable at 61F. Chance of showers this afternoon. But tomorrow looks to be thunderstorms, so I may bail on the bike commute.

Cool and wet, 2C/36F with a forecast of 25mm/1in rain. I dressed properly for the rain and rode my Kona Sutra in for the first time this year (loved the ride!!!) so I felt fine but I do have tights that need to dry out before this afternoon's ride home.

Nothing quite like waking up to see fresh snow on the ground, . It was shorts and t-shirt weather just a few days ago. I thought about wimping out and taking the car and then came to my senses. It was a beautiful day to ride a bike because any day on the bike is a good day to be alive.

4° celcius, some headwind. The Wind is suppose to turn et pick up speed so I'll probably have a big headwind again tonight, the forecast is for t-storm with 35-45 kmh winds. The good news? 20° celcius for tonight.

every canadian club but Montreal missed the playoffs this year. I don't remember anything like this ever happening in recent years.

Sold the cannondale CAAD8 over the weekend (my temporary commuter) but bought another used kona zing. Will combine the best parts of my 2 zings and sell the other. I rode the zing-in-progress today...FUN!

I forgot to bring a shirt, so I'm wearing a black short sleeved athletic shirt with a bike logo on the front today--I bought it at Salvation Army Thrift Shop. I usually keep a spare but brought it home recently. doh!
