Have you tried newspaper in your shoes? It's a trick I picked up on this forum and it work quite well. Within 8 hours my shoes are almost dry. It's not perfect but its a fast way to get almost dry shoes.
Also, placing them under or by a fan can help, more for the exterior though. |

Major drencher on the way home last night, some gear still wet! I gotta find a better way to dry shoes. This morning was mild, mid 60's and news said 100% humidity. How can humidity be 100% - wouldn't that mean we're breathing water?
100% humidity just means the air can't hold any more moisture. Just like adding sugar to a hot drink, there reaches a point where the sugar won't dissolve anymore. The hot drink has reached 100% sugar humidity. Mmmmm....sugar humidity... |

+2 on the newspaper. Take out the laces, stuff the shoes full of newspaper and it will be dry in the morning.

Nice ride this morning, very humid and quite hot with a decent tail Wind. The ride was nice this morning. My co pilot and I were not very talkative this morning. But fun none the less. |
I couldn't do it today. Got up. Couldn't get going. Fell asleep in a chair downstairs. Ended up driving in, just couldn't do the ride today.

Good ride this morning in Sacramento, CA. Sunny relatively uneventful. There was a headwind coming out of the south. Hopefully it will become a tailwind this afternoon.
|
I'm getting a few in at the end of May and start of June. Most of April-May was a writeoff due to building a deck and most of June-July will be a writeoff due to culmination of a gestation.
My MIL bought me a silly armored phone holder for the bike. It takes up so much room, blocks all the buttons, and I never wanted my headphones to go to my handlebars. (I usually tuck the cord through my shirt to my pocket so it's safe from snagging.) But nevertheless she bought it for me and put some thought into it and her daughter is watching. This after getting me a modern Walmart Schwinn basketball-hoop bucket bag for my classic Schwinn Paramount, and a giant bell. Her heart is in the right place. So I guess I'll leave it on the handlebars til it gets dark again and I need the space for the headlight, at which point it will go into the box-o'-accessories and never see the light of day again. |

You know how weather forecasters almost always call for at least 10% chance of rain even on clear days? Well, this afternoon I got caught by that 10% rain. Storm caught me about 3 miles from home and pretty well soaked me. I did make it home before the heaviest downpours however. Fortunately I also rode my bike with fenders.

86 degrees f riding to work this morning. 107 on the way home. It's really not that bad though, dry.
|
74F / 23C humid as can be...lots of bikes out this morning.
|
Cloudy, light rain, 67 degrees, tailwind = Great Ride! AND it's the 500th day I've ridden my bike to work since I started keeping track back in 2010. Yea ME! :p

Encountered a bag piper today. Awesome.

Thunderstorms this morning but fortunately a little cooler - sucks to wear rain gear when it's hot!

M. Nice ride this morning, sunny but cool with a great tailwind. They did some patch work on a particularly damaged stretch of road (1.5 kms sample of a Kaboul street) here in town, it's a good thing because it was becoming dangerous just trying to avoid those big potholes. |
Back on the bike this morning. Huge storm blew through last night but this morning was clear and bright. Lots of debris on the roads to get around.
A little chilly, but sunny. Had to find a new route to get in to the office as my main route is now all ripped up for the rest of the summer. Adds about 2.5 miles to the run in in the morning, but takes me by the lake. Pretty. |
A little cooler this morning, but very humid. Trees were still dripping water from the storms that came through last night.

nice ride in and took the long way. There were 3 other commuters out there, which was nice to see... there were some winds which slowed me down a bit...
|
32 miles (well 28 of that was a detour). A no chain day, something to savor.
|
Fair South-East ride this morning into Sacramento, CA 95823. Sunny relatively uneventful except for one right hook and some 4 way stop confusion. No wind. Low humidity. Feeling great. Saw no other commuters.
|
Terrible.. well really not too bad overall. Damn train blocked my normal route so had to find another. The other was much busier and more dangerous but actually safer the rest.
|
As I pedaled my Paramount home I was passed by two guys younger than me on nice Peugot and Nishiki 10-speeds. Not typical around here in the land of the bike store!

Thunderstorms are setting up again here today just like they did yesterday. Hardly a cloud in sight, except for a line of storms heading toward my side of town. Yesterday I got caught by a similar storm several miles from home and thoroughly soaked. Today I'm gonna try to wait it out. This storm looks more severe and I don't ride through weather like that if I can avoid it.
Update: The NWS just issued a severe thunderstorm warning, so I'll definitely be waiting it out or catching a ride home with someone else. |
