Beautiful ride, missed the san francisco traffic. Only two motorists did something horrifying so all in all a good day.
|
Had to make the phone call home this afternoon. Made it halfway home, then ducked into a pub and called.
winds were gusting to 80kmh and I was getting blown sideways by 3 or 4 feet at every gust. |
71F / 22C humid but just lovely out there, lush green afrer rain all night. Oh, and rode in with a colleague which was a bonus.
|
Woah, temp dropped to 56F, but the sun's back. I think this week breaks my record stretch of storm riding - glad to be done with it for awhile
|
Tailwind both ways yesterday. Today no Wind at all, gray sky and a cool 15° celcius.
No commute tonight, my wife and daughters will pick me up and we're going to the drive-in theater. |
Big, loud thunderstorms overnight.
I woke up this morning, looked out the window and saw that everything was wet, couldn't tell if it was still raining or not but the lightning was still making tracers across the sky. I decided, I'll just take a short ride to a bus stop. 30 minutes later, I headed out the air was cool and I could tell the storms were behind me and getting farther away, so I rode all the way in. I'm glad I did, it was a pleasant ride in every aspect. |
This week has been my first time back commuting since last summer. I did a couple random winter days but always had an excuse. This weeks commutes have been nice coming from a new house trying to find the best route balancing traffic, road surface, and distance. Today was wet but a shower at the office leaves no room for concern and a fan on my gear should do wonders. I feel better when at work, have more energy after I get home, and have less of an urge to snack. Hopefully I can maintain this as much as possible.
|
A little chilly to start, but sunny, 60 and very little wind. I decided to take the roadie instead of my usual commuter today. Was a nice switch up :)
No commute tomorrow ... daughter has a softball game that I need to get to after work. Thinking next week I'm going to shoot for four days. Generally I do just three. |

Really warm this morning, about 75F. I took it a bit slower in hopes to stay a bit cooler. Although I also added about 1.5 miles on a MUP. I saw a turtle on the MUP. He was going the opposite direction and didn't see it fit to wave back to me. |
Had a nice ride this morning. A touch chilly at 10C with a slight headwind.
Got close-passed by a short-bus... otherwise everyone behaved. |
Much more pleasant temperature this morning, but a monster 15mph headwind for half my route made it not so pleasant.
Hopefully the wind stays constant so I get nice tailwind on the way home. |
Had the day off the other day, so I went and rode whistler bike park (MTB) where I almost hit a mama bear and cub on Crank-It-Up. That place is mental.
Last night's commute had silly commuter racing in full effect: I got caught up in a 4-man dash (including one singlespeed) but then everyone turned their separate ways and just like that it was over. Saw another guy carrying a bike helmet strapped to a backpack. WTF? |

timvan_78 I was also caught up in that silly stuff along 10th between Fraser and Ontario. I reminded myself why I never got that way and always head down Fraser. I hated being passed though, knowing how fast I was, but my wife would not have been happy since I coaxed her to meet me at the boys daycare and ride home together.
I enjoy SCR when riding uphill towards a roadie, but never along stop and go traffic on side street. RyeRey521 I found when i had my longer commute I would ride really hard and be famished and would eat two breakfasts, a few snacks, lunch and then dinner at home. I put on a bunch of weight those years. It all seems to depend the difficulty of the ride and sleep patterns. Anywho, it was a nice ride this morning. My son was tired and kind of huddled into his seat, then he suddenly woke up and told me he was a Transformer. He told me all about his Transformer adventurers. Kids are great. |

When I first started I was eating everything in sight. I'm more used to it now, and I use myfitnesspal to track everything I consume, so I can really see what I'm eating and not just shoving food down my maw. Making sure I have plenty of protein is a big key for me |

It's taken me awhile but I'm to the point now where my hunger is more under control when commuting.

Making sure I have plenty of protein is a big key for me I took two years off work and started watching what I was eating and keeping track, myfitnesspal is great. Now for about two years I have been doing alternate day fasting and it is much easier to keep track, so much so that I do not track my diet. But I also cannot keep cheese or ice cream in the house. I limited my alcohol to a few a week instead of a few every other day. |
Boy howdy has it been crazy humid this week! Tuesday morning's commute included a d-bag in a 90's Civic coupe who was approaching me on an uphill, 2-lane road. I crested the hill and could see a car oncoming so I stuck my left hand out, palm flat facing backwards to try to make him stay behind until the other car passed. But he decided to just come on anyway and I *seriously* thought I was going to have to bail into the ditch to avoid shrapnel from a head-on car collision. But the oncoming car slowed to a near stop and pulled off a bit to keep from hitting the Civic.
I SWEAR what is up with people?? I also avoided rain on the way in Tuesday, but it had just rained and was very wet, so my bike still got pretty nasty. Took a short detour on the way home to vote in the primary elections for national senate seat in my state. This morning seemed cooler, but still super humid and the Sweat Gutr thingy isn't really doing jack squat. I had to stop 2 or 3 times this morning to wipe burning sweat out of my eyes. Nice ride going home, too. Avoided rain and storms again, and it was cooler. Rode a bit faster than usual thanks to wind. |
Weather was great today, both on the way in, and the way home I scoped out different routes for getting around the construction on my usual route.
On my way home tonight, about half way home, my wife and kids drove by. Stopped and took my bag, so I got to ride the rest of the way feeling like was on a race bike. |
I will miss these days come August in Washington, D.C. 64F / 18C a slight headwind but oh what a beautiful morning.
|
The commute in was very nice today after having to take the car for two days due to rain. The roads were wet when I left this am with the temp at 59f degrees. A mostly cloudy sky but at least I could ride my bike and to boot it is Friday!
|
Fantastic weather today, but I drove in since I have a doctor appointment this afternoon in an area that isn't bicycle-friendly.

Not so chilly but still only 61F. Beautiful weather - going to leave early and take the looooooong way home! |
Nicest weather of the week today, with virtually no threat of rain and low humidity. It has rained at some point every other day this week with high humidity. I might take the long way home since the weather is so nice and I'm in no hurry. Rode my touring bike with panniers for a change as I'm training for a loaded tour that starts June 14. Some friends and I are riding from Pittsburgh to DC on the GAP-C&O Canal trails.

Finally got somebody to road rage at me today. I was zipping along on a 4-lane road with lights timed at 28mph. I was going 25 and would easily hit all the lights on the road so I took the right lane. Suddenly some car starts angrily honking at me from behind. I assume she wanted to use her gas pedal so that she could reach the next light before it turned green, use her brakes to stop, and then use her gas pedal to get going again. I say "assume she wanted to" because that's what she did after passing within about 6 inches of me.
Of course the only bumper sticker on that car was "Coexist". After 3 years of no raging cagers the first one that finds me is a "hippie" with a coexist sticker. Fraud. |
