Best backpack for all-weather commuting

I am considering this Chrome backpack instead of panniers on a rear rack:
Welded Rusack Backpack | Waterproof Backpack | Chrome Industries

Do you think this is a wise idea?

If so what backpack is comfortable, and not so hot to wear in summer.

Bikes: I have 3 singlespeed/fixed gear bikes

I use Sealine Roll Top backpack or messenger bag. Cheaper then Chrome and good quality, also 100% waterproof...All backpacks are hot to wear in summer time and you're just going to have to get used to it.

Bikes: two blacks, a blue and a white.

Actually, at one time I was really close to buying this one: View the Velocity at https://www.ortliebusa.com . It was just kinda big, tho. However, totally waterproof, very well designed and constructed. Love the white. Later a buddy at work showed up with one. He loves it. Again, a bit bigger than I wanted to go with.

I ended up going with this, instead: Pixel - Osprey Packs, Inc :2014: Official Site ... I haven't really tested this in foul weather, and I'd probably want a "rainfly" type cover for it. But the design of the Osprey Pixel is a much better match to my commuting needs, a joy to wear in all temps (breathing back structure) and the smart, contoured design is tough to beat.

If you are wanting waterproof, I'm curious why you added that Osprey Pixel to the list- not that it is a bad design, but they don't go out of their way to hype any water resistance.

You really should evaluate how much capacity (and budget) and go from there. I bought a Banjo Brother backpack because I wanted waterproof and it was one of the cheapest bike specific ones on the market (might still be). I bought the large... and it was way too big for 95% of the time.

Don't see anyone mentioning Columbia backpacks. I use this one

Columbia Treadlite™ 10L Backpack
https://www.columbia.com/Treadlite™-1...efault,pd.html

Comfortable and water-resistant

Or check out this one - Columbia Manifest™ II Backpack

I use a Chrome Ivan but am considering getting a Mission Workshop Rambler for my work commute because the Ivan is huge. You might want to look into the Pawn.

Semi on topic semi off topic, I use a slightly different alternative. I have an old biking hydration pack that I took the bladder out of, it's slim enough that even loaded I can put it on under my rain gear comfortably. It also is a breathing mesh fabric with an extremely narrow footprint on your back, it's not cool by any means but it beats any other bag I've used in the summer time as well. Light loads only obviously, i.g. a small document tube and a smaller kindle in my case with text books loaded on it.

My Vaude is no longer listed and although it probably isn't waterproof, it does come with a rain cover that stuffs in a little pocket at the bottom. Waterproof packs may be heavier that water resistant + rain cover, something to consider. Also, generic rain covers will fit virtually any pack so if you like one that isn't waterproof, a separate rain cover would fit your waterproof requirement. Finally, if you want a hi-viz and/or reflective rain cover for low-light, vision-obscured rainy conditions, you might want to get a pack that fits comfortably, is the right size and then purchase a separate cover like this Polaris rain cover.

As a newbie bike commuter (my first week), I just bought this pack

Outdoor Research Dry Peak Bagger
https://www.mountaingear.com/webstore...FbFaMgodlCkAPA

I does not have any structure and hence is extremely light at 270 grams. (that's a little over 1/2 a pound)

Very comfy on my ride in this morning with a change of clothes, some food, spares, etc ...

I can vouch for Banjo Brothers in general making a pretty good "bang for your buck" product (having used both a large backpack and large mess bag), but I can't speak for that particular model.

Only One .. rather than an I got a "X" and its good .. brand touting , given I got my backpack 20 years ago,
and Dana Deigns was bought out , I expect a while ago , and sewn bags are not waterproof,

but there are really nice bags made in sewing shops..

You can always buy a river runner's DRY BAG and put it inside the back pack you have..

simple to make seam welded sealed bag with roll and snap closure , without back pack straps attached
then that seam sealed, ... it will be cheaper too ..

one of many seam welded dry bags ..

THANKS FOR THE TIP!

I bought the Banjo Brothers "Canvas Commuter Backpack"

Info:

Review:

I think I will like how the waxed cotton canvas ages and conforms to my body, better than the synthetic. And, it still has a waterproof interior.

I'd recommend the Osprey Momentum line: Momentum Series - Osprey Packs, Inc :2014: Official Site. Designed primarily with cyclists in mind. Stowable rain cover. Good harness/back system that allows decent airflow for warm/hot weather. Also, hard to beat Osprey's warranty.

Love the high visibility design!!!

+1. I use a Momentum 34 (last years model) and have no complaints. I often forget to pull out the rain cover and my stuff doesn't seem to get wet even though the pack does.

Apologize for long time not answering.
10L won't, but at least 16L will (btw, I have 16L one, not 10 as I mentioned above).
