Don't you love the drivers that try to cut you off?

When I'm filtering, sometimes drivers will see me in the rear view mirror and move over in an obvious attempt to block me. Challenge accepted. Rarely do they realize how little room I need and/or have the spatial awareness to actually block my progress. I usually come on past without slowing down, which makes the whole experience a little more uplifting.

I don't usually take pleasure in the frustrations of others. But in this case I make an exception!

This happens to me from time to time. I really don't get it. Do they want me to hit or scrape up their car? Instead of blowing by them I just stop at their car and make them realize that they just made it so that they have to deal with me. Most people don't realize the actions they take can cause a confrontation. Maybe I'm a jerk, but when this happens I'll purposely pull up to their car at every stop they make and be an ass about it. Yeah, I'm that guy.

I treat motor vehicles like out of control death machines out to get me, not something with people inside, so i just do my thing & vehicle occupants can have all the tantrum fit they want. Sometimes if they are being particularly aggressive/unsafe i'll take my phone out and pretend to record/photo & that often straightens them up real quick. Some peole just are angry at the world & nothing you do will affect their mission to spread their misery, just ignore & do your thing.

How do they have to deal with you?

I keep moving. If I can't pass on the right cus I'm blocked, I can often duck between cars and pass on the left (taking due precautions of course). They WANT you to stop. That's my last option. I prefer to indicate that they're just not a factor.

If I were a better Christian I would indeed ignore their misery. But being the man I am, I find a little joy in foiling the plans of control freaks.

I've gone by on the left many times. It's a good precaution against the right hook when my spidey-sense tingles that they may be about to cut me off, either intentionally or negligently.

Like I said, I'm probably a jerk for doing so, but I'll hop the curb pull up to their passenger, knock on their window and ask them what the flying f*** they're thinking. Generally just intimidation. The scared look on their face when they realize that they can't get away and that I might possibly be a psychotic person is a good indication that they are thinking they've made a bad decision.

No I don't condone what I do, but I'm a little hot blooded when on my bike.

A women at my job says that she does this regularly. Her explaining how/why was pretty funny, though

Whether it's right or wrong, a simple reality is that "having to pass" the same bicyclist is something that irritates lots of drivers.
Personally, I never go to the front of the line unless its on the shoulder.

If I'm driving, I'll block the shared bike lane on a right-hand turn when I'm close to the intersection to prevent a cyclist from passing on the right. This is just safer for everyone. As a bike commuter, that's what I would expect/hope other drivers do as well.

The example degnaw gave is more of what comes to mind. Getting blocked at an intersection when a car is turning right happens when I'm in a car as well, so it's not something that I think of as hostile.

Whether it's right or wrong, a simple reality is that "having to pass" the same bicyclist is something that irritates lots of drivers.
Personally, I never go to the front of the line unless its on the shoulder.
I understand this sentiment, I hate having to pass the same cyclist even when I'm on a bike, but not because of actively having to pass, rather that they blast through red lights and stop signs. If that's the reason then her irritation is warranted, but her actions to actively block are not.

Personally I love my car and I'm a former car enthusiast/hobbyist. There's no way I'd risk my car getting close enough to have a cyclist's pedals or handles scratch my paint job, not worth it.

My response to that would be:

a) get off that cyclist's bike route
b) get a bike

If they pretend you don't exist then return the favor, fine with me.

In California, this is required by law. As a frequent cyclist (recreational), bicycle commuter, driver of SUV/car, and Vespa: I am AMAZED how few who operate vehicles on our highways demonstrate they have a clue about this basic law. Cyclists often get cranky when I take the bike lane in any of my motorized vehicles (preparing to turn right), and I even see cyclists pass me (while on my bicycle) AND the car preparing to turn right -- on the car's RIGHT side! Insane.

Having written all of that -- I see NO reason for a cyclist to squeeze up along the R side of a motorized vehicle (especially a LARGE one) already waiting at a red light (when there isn't a dedicated bike lane). Yikes! Let the freaking car(s) go on their way and take your place in line. If there is so much traffic that you aren't making it through that light, then you should probably be reconsidering SOME part of the equation (mode or path of transport).
