Because saddle sores aren't just from chafing. Bacteria and fungus are opportunistic, and will take advantage of any opportunity to grow. Soap and water followed by thorough drying help reduce the opportunity for these problems.

I kinda wish they still made the actual chamois shorts. I remember when I first tried them I was all SOLD ! I'd love to have a direct comparison to try.

I still have a pair from the 80s. Modern pads are better.
