saddle down

Click on pic to get a bigger picture.

The guy that owns this bike says he does massive commutes and touring with this bike. I pointed out that he would have to expend a lot of energy just keeping himself in the saddle - he disagrees and says it's fine.

Would anyone here ride with a saddle pointed like that? I know the bike is leaning against a wall, even so the nose is definitely pointing down.

You've wandered into the wrong thread. Go out again turn left, it's the bright yellow door with the furry handle. That's the surrealist thread you signed up for.

Have you ever tried cycling with the nose down? You are constantly needing to push yourself back up the seat. Even if it is comfortable, you are wasting so much energy and form just staying on the bike.

I'm trying to get the guy to look at his bike differently. If someone offers me advice I listen.

A tipped down saddle is a sign that the saddle might be too high. But we are all built differently, and some people need it that way.

i suspect he actually sits with weight on the rear edge of the seat.... I think it simulates a seat, I have seen that was basically a cylinder with padding and marketed as a comfortable, non injuring type of seat. I don't know if it is sold anymore and I can't remember the name...

There are as many variety of saddle positions as there are riders, what works for them works for them.

I think the bigger issue is the cat attached to the pedal. PETA is going to come after you.

I've ridden a few miles on saddles that were similar. Don't care for it. But to each their own.

"The guy that owns this bike"?!?!

What'd you do? Sneak into his house to grab that photo?

There's more to this story, I'd bet.

I've recently bought a new saddle, and had a fun time getting it positioned right, since the fact that it was digging into my crotchal area was relieved by pitching the nose UP, which is kind of counter-intuitive.

All I can say is, if he has gone on all sorts of tours and long rides with this set up, and he's okay with it, then the set up must be okay for him. I'd love to see a video of his riding style though. To stay in position, he just about has to be almost-standing on the pedals, or leaning heavily on the handlebars.

A friend of mine rides with his saddle tilted even a bit more than that. He's been doing it for years and seems to be comfortable on 100+ mile rides. I don't think I would be for even a few miles, but it works for him.

Wild guess, he's getting the benefit of a noseless saddle without get the a noseless saddle.

My brother-out-law put one of these on his bike, he likes it. I don't get it, but I have no interest in getting into a detailed conversation about why this saddle is better for wedding tackle.
