BMX For Commuting?

Today, I saw a guy commuting on a BMX with a full pack on his back! The bike is three or four sizes too small for the guy and he had to stand up to pedal. Has anyone seen someone ride like that? It has to be a tough commute.

at 6'-4", 205, there's no way i could ever commute on a bmx bike. are you sure he wasn't just heading for an xbox marathon with the latest games and a 12 pack of energy drinks? but hey, more power to him for gettin' it done.

Many folks do. Others ride a skateboard.

I would imagine many 1000's of people have ridden a bmx bike to work or school.

My boss rides his in occasionally, but only when he's taken his car to the shop. Total ride is less than a mile.

FWIW, I used to ride my BMX to elementary school.

Come to think of it.. a BMX would be fairly cheap and easy to turn into an E-bike, so why not?

Bicycle Moto Cross is about going fast over a really bumpy course that is really short , so you never sit town until across the finish line..

Bike Friday bikes use the 406 20" wheel and designed a really nice Bike for travel, around it .. It has tall masts for the saddle and Handlebars ..

Made in Eugene Oregon USA.

All the time. I probably see more of them in my neighborhood than the well-equipped, beardy, steelie commuter. It's a good simple ride to the bus stop.

Now if you wanted to come up with a stereotype for the suburban BMX commuter... Tapout shorts, basketball sneakers, a really big really white t-shirt and really flat cap that goes over his ears, probably a gold chain. His not-running 2.5RS is parked next to his stepdad's not-running Trans Am at his mom's house.

Sounds more North Highlands than Orangevale, but I can see this.

For all you know this guy was hauling his camera to the skate park... or maybe not. He can probably be found across America.

"The BMXer was last seen being a virgin and wearing a flat-brim cap and a "Red Bull Gives You Road Rage" t-shirt, so keep your eyes open for him."

56 yrs old & BMX ĉommuter

where i'm from originally (TX) most areas aint so bike friendly. In WA stäte past 20 yrs. To most other observers, seeing a short gray bearded guy in street clothes, wearing 5-10s riding along on a custom BMX (Fit Mac V2 frame & high end parts), I'd too probably be saying WTF!? GET A REAL JOB ya loser & Grow up dude! for many years as bike commuter, mostly rode a rigid 26" mtb or singlespeed. nowdays i hate gym work or long road or mtb rides; being only 3 miles from office & route totally flat so really like a simple 25 lb bmx & thats my daily workout. Plus helps avoid driving much our bought new '14 tacoma truck, which has 14.5k miles now.... Anyway, RIDE YOUR EFFING BMX & just say F Em & Feed Em Fish Heads!

I use to also run about 40 miles/week.

Everyday on a section of the commuter trail I use - except most of the individuals meeting this description I suspect have severely unmet needs including issues with drug and alcohol addiction.
