Only rode Wednesday last week, that was about the only break in the rain we had. Rode today, this morning was cooler than expected, in the 40's. Ride home was real nice, 70's with a tailwind. I saw 3 other cyclists on one stretch of road this afternoon, which is 3 more than I usually see.
Got my 2nd best time on the segment through the park near the house. Just 30 seconds off of setting a PR. I was passing cars. :) |
I rode in for the first time this year, this morning. It was 42° and the only thing that got cold were my hands. It's good to be back on the bike

I see more rec riders out on my way home since the time change and the temps have warmed. As parkersdad said, it was cool this morning, but not horribly so. I caught glimpses of a pretty sunrise on the way in. High of about 80 again today. Just about wonderful riding in my opinion. |
Well this may be a first. Had a nice 18-mph tailwind for the ride home last night... and then had a nice 18-mph tailwind for the ride back to work this morning. Maybe I should go buy a lottery ticket! :thumb:

Beautiful weather again today with high expected about 80 F, similar to yesterday. I rode home yesterday afternoon wearing shorts with no tights or knee covers for the first time in many months. Only issues have been the wind, which never seems to stop blowing lately, and pollen levels. If all goes to plan, I hope to ride the long way home this afternoon to take advantage of the nice weather.

I had to fight some big winds on the way home last night - 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. The wind was straight out of the North and I head straight North to get home. I ended up using some sailing technique, tacking. I avoided the direct route (8.5 miles) and took the zigzag route (13.5 miles). This helped avoid riding straight into the winds, but also avoided the busy roads, the zigzag route is mostly rail-to-trails. This morning was back to normal March temps (27F), sunny with a little tailwind. It was wonderful. But I did have another punish-pass. Oddly, like spring flowers, the angry punish-pass starts in spring. I ride these roads year-round, in the winter I have very few aggressive-driver-issues. Then the snow melts and these angry SOB show up everywhere. *punish-pass: a very close/fast pass with no reason for the driver to be so close (i.e. the other lane is wide open). In other words, the driver is making a "statement" (with 2 tons of steel) that you should not use a bike on their roads. a.holes. |
Almost too warm this morning with my long sleeve base-layer. Another gorgeous day in store: upper 50s and no wind.

i had a wonderful ride home yesterday. finished the day with a total of 27.9 miles. My average speed was faster than last weeks longer ride although a portion of that one was 7 miles on gravel. :) I plan on riding tomorrow. I am wishing i was able to ride today darn Tuesday AM & PM commitments. (although i guess it is a good thing they are on the same day.) :thumb:

43F this morning with a 10mph tailwind - looks like I'll have ~20mph headwind for the ride home. It hit 70F yesterday afternoon and while I'm thrilled with the warm temps it brought out all the hibernating animals most of whom have forgotten any trail etiquette or common sense. In one 11 mile ride I yelled at people more than the entire last summer. It's not supposed to get about high 40's for the next few days which will give my blood pressure a rest

ughh woke up feeling way too tired this morning, so I drove instead of riding. Probably a good thing, as I would have had a breezy headwind going home. Rain forecast for Wednesday and Thursday also.
Not starting the year off so great. I was doing 2 commutes a week this time last year, but this year I have yet to ride more than one day a week. :( |
I just wasn't feeling the love on today's ride; waking up early was difficult, and I couldn't seem to find my groove the whole ride in. I'm hoping that this afternoons ride home will be awesome; the only thing that could possibly suck about it will be my attitude.....lol.

It was awesome!
Sort of. It was my first commute since Dec 20th. I had to leave extra early for rare work reason. Temps were in the low 20's with one heck of a serious head wind the whole way in. Left house at 5:15 so the whole commute was in the dark with lights on the bike. And it was awesome! Man am I glad the ice has finally melted away... Good to be back on the bike |
This morning i didn't dress warmly enough. after a series of days of warmish weather (40s-50s), today was 30 when i went outside. augh. i'm really bad about checking the weather when i leave bc it's so early and i'm just rushing to leave.
there wasn't much traffic on the road so two cars decided to go 50-60 in a 25 zone. wtf. within a couple ft of me. with the wind blowing considerably. not cool, sigh. someone (pedestrian) jumped in front of me in the bike lane to take a photo of ... guess what! nothing, a building - yet again - on the brooklyn bridge. on that bridge, everyone and their mom thinks they are a photographer it is beyond ridiculous how little they pay attention. for what? a photo they will never look at again, risking their lives making these stupid calls without looking. i rang my bell then yelled but of course the idiot just stood there dumbfounded like it was the first time he's been in a city or been on a bridge with foot and bike traffic. other than all that it was a pretty nice ride. i waved some pedestrians thru, even tho they had right of way. some pedestrians will always yield b/c they value their lives i suppose and are smart about staying alive. while others...well, God help them. very few bikes on the road today. few motorists and pedestrians too. kind of a weird day! |
I had a nice variety of winds on my ride home yesterday. An early tail wind helped me cruise for a couple of miles. That turned into a cross wind trying push me into the ditch. And for the final uphill miles I fought a head wind along with gravity. Variety is good, right?
A nice ride in this morning though. Upper 40s for the ride in. Still wearing shorts, but long sleeve shirt. And it was almost light enough when I left that I didn't need the reflective straps I've been wearing. Another week or two. |
Lately, it's practically a bike traffic jam on my regular route home. I Need to mix it up.
|
Nice dark 50 degree ride in. Legs are a little tight but other than that it was perfect.

My awesome tailwind for yesterday's morning commute turned into a near 20-mph headwind for my 20-mile commute home. :(
I actually didn't plan to ride home yesterday since a work colleague was in from out of town, and we thought we'd have a couple of beers, celebrate St. Patrick's, and then I would just catch an Uber for the ride home. However, he had something come up and had to cancel, so I figured I mind as well commute back home. I got pretty tired and the last couple of miles were REALLY tough. Drove today. |
Legs tired after my long commute yesterday but I had a rare tailwind riding to work this morning, so it all worked out. Too bad the red lights were not cooperating, as I got caught by nearly every one.
I doubled my normal afternoon commute yesterday, riding home on new greenways that our city completed late last fall. I hadn't commuted on them yet due to the short days over the winter as I didn't want to ride such a long ways in the dark in out-of-the-way locations. The trails follow the main river through our city and a tributary, with no exposure to car traffic and nice scenery, which was a very nice change from my usual commute through the suburban jungle. My total commuting mileage for the day was 46.2 miles, two-thirds of that on the ride home. I may try for a metric century commute by taking the greenways both ways once the days get longer, but it would mean leaving for work an hour earlier than usual. |
Super headwind going home yesterday. 20mph steady with gusts up to 40mph. It was pretty rough.
Still a bit windy this morning, but not nearly as bad. The direction shifted a bit, so hopefully I get a nice tailwind for the ride home. |

My legs were hurting and I would have had a 15-20 mph headwind. I rode the motorcycle into work this morning and I'm taking the bicycle home. |

this morning, I saw some other guy on a bike doing arm-circles while riding. It looked like he was trying to fly away!
He didn't achieve lift-off. |

Nice 18 mile ride yesterday. There's a rural intersection that usually has little to no traffic on my way home. Well I had to swerve to miss a car and pulled right out in front of a school bus! It wasn't that close of a call because everyone was driving relatively slow, but it gave me a scare. I'll admit I wasn't paying close attention. I was kinda zoned out. Sometimes I can ride for several minutes without seeing a car once I get out of town. According to my gps I had 36 minutes of stopped time. I love to stop and smell the flowers this time of year!
