In the first video I ran a stop sign. I run the stop signs in that neighborhood unless I see cross traffic coming, which is rare. I would have ridden the same way if the van wasn't there, they just happened to go the same way for a few turns.

I usually ride more in the middle of the lane, but I've been experimenting with riding further to the right again out of curiosity. I've had a lot of fellow cyclists basically saying I'm an ******* for riding in the middle of the lane on roads like that, but I felt it was safer. They said I'd stop encountering ******** if I rode further right. It appears they're wrong :p

Managed a few commutes in the past week. Put some studded tires on and made a few minor changes for the winter which seem to be working fine. Taking advantage of the warmer weather while I can. Had low temps from low 20's last week to 30 the past two mornings. Still tweaking the clothing options. Been wearing some UnderArmour for a base layer and trying a few different IceArmor glove options.
I've been running Strava since the summer on a galaxy S4 and my commute to work was 11.2 miles every day. Recently switched to an iPhone 6 and that same route is now 11.3 miles.

perfect weather today and yesterday evening. lot more people out riding their bikes yesterday in the evening commute. -> whoo hoo!

All I saw in your videos was no gloves so must be warm where you are!

38F and a little foggy this morning but a headwind. The sun's actually come out and supposed to reach 50. I just care if the wind stays from the south so I have a tailwind going home!

Its been 45-55 on my commutes, can't complain about the weather one bit.

I'm with you in those situations I prefer to take the middle. I think it forces them to acknowledge you and not sneak by and clip of squeeze you out. But some disagree.

I have found less issues of I ride in the middle. In my opinion they see you more like a vehicle if you're traveling at a decent clip in the middle and acting predictable.

That's been my experience as well. This mornings commute went by without issue.

Buffalo Buff - I don't see anything wrong with your position, especially at the speeds you're going. I wouldn't have confronted the honker though; you never know who's behind the wheel or what they're armed with.

Again a driver pulls up beside me to right hook and then stops, this time at a business park driveway about 1000 feet back from the intersection from yesterday. He wouldn't have hooked me either because I was behind and slowing again. I just waited, sensing a trap (though unintentional perhaps).

Maybe I'm confusing them with my speed on the fixed gear - I'm 5-7 mph slower than usual on this section.

The commute in this morning was very nice with the temp at 36f degrees when I left the house this am.

I was able to extend my ride a little longer last evening. As I am able to make it home before sunset. And the sun will not set much earlier than it is now. Yay for that!

Slightly cooler here, maybe 34 degrees F. It was a very pleasant ride in. I had gone ~4 months without lubricating my drivetrain. :eek: It was squeaking yesterday, so it got a good wet lube last night with the tires topped off, too. Like an old fashioned service station. Better sounding today. :thumb:

We had dense fog for the second morning in a row, so I drove again. The weather this week looked so promising on Monday. We don't get much fog around here, but I know from experience that it is very hard for me to ride in due to my glasses fogging up. That, and the prospect of drivers not seeing me, makes me hesitant to ride. Other than the early morning fog, the weather is ideal here this week. Unfortunately, I have to leave home no later than 7 am to reach work on time, and the fog has been extremely dense here from the time I get up until about 8-9 am.

A department get-together after hours took me a few miles out of the way, more westerly direction so twice I bailed to the sidewalks. I refuse to ride into a low setting sun. Otherwise it was a great time to ride, around 70° believe it or not. A co-worker offered a lift "to shorten the ride" - unclear on the concept I guess. I'd have skipped the event before giving up the ride, if I couldn't do both.

The fixie made me work going up some of the hills, but during the rest of it getting my cadence up to where I like it, on the smooth roads, really felt good.

A little warmer today (40F) with light winds. It's been a really nice commuting week for December.

I started out this morning excited that it was supposed to be 44F. I checked thermometer and it was 44F on the dot. I was excited. I got stuff together then I walked out the door and DENSE FOG! :eek: I was like wow! did not expect this. Since, I had already gotten all my stuff together and did not feel like switching it to drive. Actually driving did not cross my mind until about .5 miles down the road [MENTION=86492]tarwheel[/MENTION] 's running through my head as I rode) and I was like maybe I should turn around and drive. I decided to press on since I was already rolling. I was wearing my Performance softshell. It was so humid and eventually cool frost formed on my arms. I think it made my bell freeze too it did not ring correctly either.

I can not believe people would be driving without their headlights on. STUPID. I felt for the most part visible. I had 2 lights on rear and two on the front. I have to find my head mount for my new headlight. Cygotlite 550 Metro

Yeah I rode in fog like that a couple weeks ago and people at work (who are used to me riding anyway) were like "you rode in that fog?!?!?!" No big deal to me. I actually went without my riding glasses for most of it.

A balmy 47F, still headwinds. I'd take 10 degrees colder with no wind! Cracked myself up this morning - walked out to the bike and saw the chain was off (from changing tube last night). I didn't want to get my fingers greasy so picked up some leaves. Well, since all the leaves are dead they crumbled and I picked up a handful. They crumbled and I winded up getting greasy fingers anyway. When I finally got underway I discovered there were dead leaf fragments on the chain, drive train, under fenders, etc. Noisy ride for about 5 minutes!

I rode most of the way with my prescription riding glasses but I eventually got to the point where I had to stop and take the prescription out but I just took them off completely and my hat. It was much better that way. I still cannot believe there was frost on my coat. It was a first for me.

Normally I don’t eat anything before the AM commute.

Big mistake.I was balancing ‘effort’ vs ‘need-to-puke’ all the way to work. Ug.

T shirt weather today which is nice, but the drivers have been typical. Saw a car blow through a 3 way stop, followed by another car blowing through a 4 way stop. Both times with cross traffic.

Then on my lunch break I'm riding through a parking lot at a decent speed. There's two stop signs about 200' apart. Someone felt the need to pass me during that 200', so they could be first to stop at the stop sign. smh.

It was grey and damp and cool, normally what we call nasty weather, but I enjoyed it. I think I hit my highest average speed while commuting, a hair over 14 mph, and this was over 14 miles. My route. I can see some GPS errors, because it shows I took a spur off my route and rode through buildings for a bit, achieving 98 mph. If I did that, I must have spaced out, because I don't remember it. But I did have fun.
