The commute in was a nice uneventful ride, with the temp at 44f degrees when I left the house.

esmith2039 12-14-15 06:31 AM

Damp but at least it wasn't raining. Had to stop midway and take off my rain pants. Going to ride the Specialized this week. Sure did feel easier to pedal this morning compared to the Trek. It's great on the flats as far as speed but the old mountain bike shines on the hills.

I never got around to posting on Friday. Oh well, I rode to work and then back home.

Pretty warm this morning at 59F. I wore shorts and could have done short sleeves too, but did a light weight long sleeve. We have some rain coming during the day that I hope will move out before 5. If not, I will ride in the rain, NBD.

I have a little more than 100 miles to hit 5,000 commuting miles for the year. I am off work this Thursday, but should still ride about 100 miles this week. If I don't reach it this week, I'll hit it after Christmas since I'm off the week of Christmas.

Great ride into work..Temps at 8C and looks like it'll stay that way all week..I've shed my inner jacket and shoe toe warmers.. past two days haven't even needed gloves thanks to the handlbar covers. It's not summer but nearly the middle of December and still great general biking weather.. I've noticed more bikes this week too since a few weeks ago..

Rain and headwind, perfect storm! Helps that it was mid 50's but I'm sick of these spring-like winds. My dying headlight kept me occupied - forgot to charge it... again. Lasted just long enough

spivonious 12-14-15 10:33 AM

I didn't look at the thermometer before leaving today, so I ended up at work soaked in sweat. Since when is it 57F at 7AM in mid-December?

Hopefully the forecast rain cools things down a bit.

Since years where El Niņo rears its ugly head. Next year will probably feel like a deep freeze.

I had that on the ride home last night, got so bad I could barely keep both eyes open. But it was warm.

So this morning I figure I should get the tailwind into work...nope. A strong (but dry) headwind coming back into the office :0

Phil_gretz 12-15-15 06:39 AM

Warm and breezy, it was a surreal ride in this morning. Spray from my front wheel being thrown up into my light beam.

As I rode through a wooded section, a bird of prey flew across between the trees, and as it passed beneath a streetlight, I thought it may be an owl. I don't think that it was a hawk.

mgw4jc 12-15-15 07:55 AM

48F this morning - about 10 degrees colder than yesterday. Streets were a little damp from some rain yesterday.

I had one honk and close pass this morning. A white work van - unmarked, unfortunately - who appeared to be tailgating the car in front of him and impatiently in a hurry. I wasn't able to get the license plate.

Then I had lady pull out in front of me as I was about to turn left. I'm in a left turn lane to turn into a neighborhood and minivan mom is trying to get her kids to school. It's possible that she couldn't see me as I could not see her face too well due to the van's body on the edge of the windshield. I've noticed two blind spots there (left and right) when driving our minivan.

Anyway, I was pretty much anticipating that she might pull out in front of me. It wasn't the first time and won't be the last at that particular spot.

Rainy, windy, chilly (40F) - yucky! This is likely my last ride of the year. Having shoulder surgery tomorrow and doc says I'll be off the but awhile. See ya!

Good luck with your surgery! Hopefully it's a speedy recovery.

39F/4C when I left the house this morning. Streets were really wet in places and just damp in others. Must have been some stray showers move through last night. It was also a bit foggy/misty so my glasses were a constant bother. Otherwise, not a bad ride to work for mid-December.

RidingMatthew 12-15-15 09:01 AM

50F and dry-ish roads were wet but good ride with some random fog. Good ride all in all.

(kneewarmers, arm warmers, and vest.) So weird for DEC 15

heywood 12-15-15 09:06 AM

Very windy ride in this morning..temp was great but 52km gusts across the bridges wasn't that fun..

tarwheel 12-15-15 10:30 AM

Pleasant ride this morning despite a stiff headwind. Temps were in the mid-50s, which is unseasonably warm for NC and most of the Eastern US. Roads still wet from the rain yesterday, so it felt pretty humid. I am ready for the cold weather and prefer it to the weather we're having. One of the things I like about bike commuting in winter is being able to arrive at work without being all sweaty. I can't do that with the weather lately, but I'm not complaining because it could be worse -- like the snow, sleet and ice that made roads unridable here the last two weeks in February.

Just kind of toddled along in the smallest ring, and at the end I found myself at work. Nice and cool out. Wished I'd dug out my snowboard gloves from the attic.

snow_echo_NY 12-15-15 11:49 AM

it's been 60 F in NYC these days and pretty awesome for riding. i'm wearing a l/s shirt, midweight pant. thin neck gaiter, handkerchief under the helmet. and best of all: no gloves! i'm ecstatic.

the rides have been good, i think mostly b/c there are tons of cyclists on the road again so everyone's driving walking and cycling with due care. there are always a few crazies but what can you do, life is not perfect.

all in all excellent commuting these past few weeks. i haven't had need to break out the studded tires yet.

i love it.

First time ever having a problem with local law enforcement this morning. State Trooper behind me blared over the PA that I must get on the fog line when traffic is approaching (2-lane rural road). Utter BS according to state law. He then proceeded to pass me on a hill with another car cresting the hill at the same time. This guy has passed me a number of times before, with about a 50/50 record of changing lanes to pass vs. straddling the line and passing me closely.

I have now printed out the applicable state laws (full text) to keep in my trunk bag, and have notified the state bike/ped advocacy organization (they're currently running a Change Lanes To Pass campaign), and emailed the captain of the nearest Highway Patrol station for my region.

no motor? 12-15-15 12:59 PM

It was a little windy here this morning, but after the stronger winds, mist and fog from last week I've got nothing to complain about.

Hopefully you get a good response.

No complaints today.. little wind. The wind was brutal yesterday! Did almost 12 miles tonight which is almost double my normal. After this week normal mileage I'll be at 1970 out of 2000 miles which is my goal. Not alot to some but even if I drove everyday and no days off I'd only have 3300 miles a year.

mgw4jc 12-16-15 07:26 AM

Low 40s this morning as the week cools down some. Only one bone-headed move by a driver this morning. Nothing major, just the guy who thinks he is going to pass me before a stop sign and ends up being in the middle of the road at the stop sign. It wasn't a big deal because there was no other traffic around, but it's just annoying that he had to try.

I'm off work tomorrow, but back on the bike Friday.

esmith2039 12-16-15 07:43 AM

Accuweather/Weather Channel app said 40, my temp gauge said 35 and the bank said 29! Felt alot colder with that wind, only worse tomorrow. But at least it was a tail wind.

RidingMatthew 12-16-15 07:48 AM

probably last day to ride this week!

Cooler today but I left a little earlier so traffic was different than yesterday. I think I left so late yesterday that I had missed most of the crazy people. It is supposed to rain tomorrow :( plus I get to go to a "Yes Virginia" musical during work hours (beats working) and celebrating a friends birthday. So I will drive. I probably will have to drive friday because my daughter and i have to be Christmas party and I dont think I can get home, showered, then there in time. Less riding this week but I have already beat my mileage from Last December so I am okay with that.

that will mean that the cold weather is coming our way. It has been so fun to watch the weather progress across the nation, most of the time. I guess winter will be here soon. We hit 70F yesterday.
