Today I left my house it was about 33 degrees f. Minutes into my ride it started snowing :( I had to ride straight into 15 or so MPH winds. I wasnt sure if I was a little slower on my times due to the wind or my new gear setup or both. but its was like snow that just turned into water so more like snrain. shhh thats a word. Then shortly after I got there the sun came out....
My ride home was awesome. it was 55 degrees, no wind, sunny, well as much as it can be around sunset. I made good time. Better than normal. Im loving this new gear! I stopped and did some grocery shopping on the way home. it was nice. complete 180.. gotta love Minnesota. |

Last night I "commuted" to a floor hockey game on my bike, does that count for this thread? The fun part was figuring out how to carry a hockey stick on a bike; ended up bungie strapping it to the top tube with the blade in the back. Looked like a funky set of fenders from the side!
None of the guys I play floor hockey with had ever seen a fixie before. They just couldn't fathom why anyone would want to ride a bike that didn't coast! |
Looking forward to a good 30 mile round-trip commute today in the sunshine. Riding home in the rain the other night I rode through what appeared to be a small puddle (no way around it with car coming up behind me) but turned out to be a deep pothole. Hit so hard my feet came off the pedals and the rear tire tube blew out. Luckily I was within walking distance to home and had a spare tube in bag. Wheel appears to be okay. Gonna try real hard not to do that again...ever. :)

No kickstand, but still, totally kickass!

On Friday, I got the new Gator Hardskin on the front wheel in place of the remaining studded tire. The Friday commutes were dreamy in low 30-40F precipitation; so little effort to spin up the lighter wheelset after building the quads with winter conditions.

A chilly 33f degrees when I left the house this am, but at least I am on my bike. The ride in was nice. The temps will get to about 70f for my ride home, that will be very nice!!
|
It was just right this morning, temp and wind. Too bad was in a allergy pill fog.. tends to shorten my temper a bit to. Was hoping for a slow pace ride in but forgot my badge and had to go back 3/4 mile from home. Put a Kenda K908 on the rear yesterday I think it helped some but hard to tell with all those factors!

I had a good commute this morning, granted it's only 4 miles, but that still counts.

Granted it was a recumbent stationary bike and I only pedaled back and forth. I had an exhausting week doing X-rays and follow up visits. I've been progressing and healing well. My ortho physician gave an all clear to fully weight bear! So that gives me excellent things to work on. Being in the full rehab facility is nice and they keep us busy doing all sorts of therapy things. I look forward to being done before June and our daughters arrival. Nothing exciting to report about this morning's commute. Forecasters are calling for rain this week. I felt a few drops on my way in. I ran in a half marathon race on Saturday. My legs are still pretty sore from that, but biking wasn't too bad. |
Good commute this morning... although I realized I forgot my high-visibility vest about 1/2 mile from home and had to turn around. Even with all my lights, I just feel safer wearing the vest. 55F and and nice tailwind all the way to work.
|
It was 29 F this morning for the commute in, but it's supposed to be 66 for the ride home. It's tricky to pick the right gear for both conditions, but it's still way better than suffering on the trainer.

Gorgeous weather right now except for the pollen, which isn't really weather per se. The pollen is the only thing keeping the commuting conditions from being ideal in NC, and we continue to be covered in a yellow cloud. Fortunately I'm feeling much better since I started taking allergy medication. I'm actually looking forward to the rain we are supposed to get tomorrow, which should clear out the pollen at least temporarily. The heavy rains we were supposed to get last Friday never materialized, so everything is coated in yellow dust.

Today was absolutely delightful. I was a little cool starting out, and the traffic as soon as I left my subdivision was pretty yucky, but once I left that road (~1/2 mile) everything was fine. I really am loving my Peugeot. Putting a mountain bike RD and cassette on it has given me enough gear range where I never feel like I am working particularly hard, the bike is super smooth and an absolute pleasure to be on, my Brooks saddle keeps my tuckus nice and comfy, and that bike is just beautiful. I'm really liking the Randonneur bars I put on her, so much that after only 2 days of commuting I went back to one of my road bikes for a ride and the bars felt wide and weird at the hoods.
The ride was cloudy and cool, but I just hummed along the road enjoying every mile |
Ordered a new bike on the weekend (Trek 7.2 disc) so this week is some of the my last commutes to work (20 minutes each way in downtown Toronto) on my current bike, "Shaniqua", a 5 year old Norco hybrid.
She's been a workhorse the last 5 years, she's been a yearround bike even in winter, real rack and fenders, carried some ridiculously heavy loads on two panniers. Cost me about $120 a year in parts 'n labor. Good bike, gonna be a bit sad selling her off and getting the new whip in a week or so. |
Amazing weather today, but I drove in as my cold has moved into my chest. Hopefully I get back on the bike tomorrow.
I was able to check out some recumbent bikes at a new store that opened up on Saturday. So comfortable! If the price wasn't twice as much as an equivalent standard bike, I'd really be tempted to get one as my main commuter. |
Awesome weather over the weekend, so I cranked out my first ever metric century on Saturday (total of 67 miles), doing it solo unsupported. Unfortunately I was stupid and forgot sunscreen, and also didn't take enough food. I was bonking out and miserable towards the end, and my arms and knees got burned pretty good.
This morning we had rain, and more rain later today, plus leaving for work after lunch for a Dr appt for me and another Dr appt for my son. So I drove the car today. Tomorrow is looking pretty nice, however. |

Once I got my current commuting bike, I lost all interest in repairing the flat I had on my old one and riding it. Absolutely zero interest, and I thought it would be hard to let go of that bike. I still have to trip her of fenders, rack, cycling computer and a few other things that will not be sold with her, and I guess finally repair the flat.
I just find it odd how we dispose of these inanimate objects that were so profoundly useful to us for years and then as soon as we get a nice bike the old ones are instantly forgotten. |

Awesome news. |
Great ride in this morning 53F seemed a bit cold but I eventually warmed up and avg. 16 mph in this morning. I was completely surprised at my pace since I applied mulch to the front garden areas around my house and am quite sore except when riding. :thumb:
|
Have been sick for 2 weeks now. Mild but very persistent nose and chest congestion. My last ride of any consequence was Saturday a week ago, and I probably shouldn't have done it then, either.

For me, the 'bike commute' was later than normal, I was catching up on email after a few days off. The benefit of a later commute time, warmer! And I decided to 'ride the wind' to some Strava PR (winds were around 20 mph with 30 mph gusts); I love that feeling of riding at 20 mph and no wind resistance! (of course the price is paid when you need to turn into the wind). |
My first incident since restarting riding the first of March. My ears are ultra sensitive with these allergies so coming up behind me and honking isn't a wise choice right now.. hulk sort of angry. When the idiot came around and told me to get off the road I unleashed quite a string of profanity. Guess he didn't like that so pulled over and I knew what he was going to do with his door so I was prepared.. which ended up he didn't. Could of got ugly. There I vented and I'm a idiot.. big idiot.. should of just ignored and kept going. It could of turned out bad. Going to start putting both ear plugs in and just riding, don't have it loud anyways so I can hear if need be. On a positive note that new Kenda K908 I can really tell a difference going up the hills!

I left very early this am as rain is in the forecast for this morning. I made it before the rain(lucky me). The temp was a mild 56f degrees and I had a very nice ride to work. The rain should clear out by early afternoon, so I get a dry ride home also. A good day all -around!
