I had a good commute this morning, granted it's only 4 miles, but that still counts.
64F / 18C steady rain...those winter days seems so long ago. |

You bet it counts, that's about my one-way mileage each day.

Slightly misty morning after overnight rains. I was passed by more school buses than normal. Must've been a timing thing. I left a little earlier than normal and ended up winding through a neighborhood and circling a shopping center to kill some time and add some miles.
Thunderstorms forecast most of the day, so afternoon could be iffy for riding. |

Ordered a new bike on the weekend (Trek 7.2 disc) so this week is some of the my last commutes to work (20 minutes each way in downtown Toronto) on my current bike, "Shaniqua", a 5 year old Norco hybrid.
She's been a workhorse the last 5 years, she's been a yearround bike even in winter, real rack and fenders, carried some ridiculously heavy loads on two panniers. Cost me about $120 a year in parts 'n labor. Good bike, gonna be a bit sad selling her off and getting the new whip in a week or so. Uneventful this morning though cooler then it's been - 52F. Ended up with wicked headwinds both ways yesterday, must be karma |
Had a flat tire on the way home last night. This is probably my fault for riding the road bike with tires not suited for the grit/gravel/glass along the shoulders of some of the roads I travel. Anyway, this guy stopped to see if I was okay and offered to help. I was almost finished by that time, but I appreciated him taking the time to check on me anyway.

Cool/cold, little to no wind. I can't complain. Made it to work in a respectable time. I need start going to bed earlier and drink less beer. Someone made the hilly section of my commute a segment on Strava. Looks like I better up my game.

it's been good. yesterday was gorgeous and in the 60s in the afternoon. cold in the morning.
this morning was nice and balmy. i imagine it will be warm later (but raining which is fine now that i have fenders!) nyc commuting has gotten tons better. |
Sunny and already in the mid-40s by the time I started my 3.7 mile commute this morning. I agree, the short commutes 'count' too! It's such a great way to start the day. I'm an admitted 'fair weather' commuter. In the hotter summer weather it's tough to cool down enough to be 'presentable' in my office space for almost 30 minutes. Anyone have ideas? Going from the breeze on my face to the still air of an office just opens the pore floodgates!

Nice ride this morning, just the slightest of drizzle when I left the house, and a 10 MPH tail wind. I'm happy if I make it to the office in 1:15 and I did it today in 1:15 elapsed time on the dot. Cloudy all day, hopefully dry this afternoon, and a head wind of maybe 6 MPH so shouldn't be too bad. |
It rained pretty hard all afternoon, but by the time I rode home it was slowing down, and tapered off as I got close to home.
Snow on all the local ski hills--this after they already gave up on a dreadful snow season. Mother nature sure has a twisted sense of humour. |
[QUOTE=PatrickGSR94;17717990]I keep a small fan under my desk on the floor. It tilts up so it can blow in my face. I've had it since around 1999/2000 when I was in college architecture school, which was a rather old building that would get hot sometimes."
Great idea. Thanks! |

Not bad overall 3rd day in a row riding. Hoping to start doing 5 days a week, not sure on Friday though planned a 15 mile right with my oldest son so might rest. Pulled the bike out of the house and had to turn back around and put some rain gear on. Never trust the weather channel's radar.
|
Yesterday afternoon had downpour, sunshine, downpour, sunshine. By 5pm it was clear and my ride home was sunny and dry.
I did get a ride from the wife this morning though. It is raining, but not bad. She had some errands anyway so brought me to work. I brought the bike so I can ride home this evening. |
i forgot to update and said i got fenders over the wknd. so i will ride in the rain as long as it's not pouring.
today was my first day cycling with cycliq's fly6 light/camera combo. just got it in yesterday. posted pics in electronics subforum. hope this thing works! excited to see what vid i pull off of it later. while yesterday and today were nice commutes, the traffic issues were enormous. not for me b/c i'm cycling but i still had to navigate and wonder what the hell is going on here? :) so yesterday morning there was a ton of traffic in lower manhattan just south of the brooklyn bridge. i had to get to the east side bike path to bike to work b/c the small streets were at a standstill on pearl street and fulton street. this morning there was a ton of traffic in brooklyn. cars and trucks and buses lined up on Jay street, going no where. also two cyclers bothered me today. one passed me and immediately went slowly which slowed me down. then blocked me from passing him. i was truly annoyed. then saw him blow thru every light we encountered, only to have me catch up to him and pass him. he finally exited my path by cycling onto a sidewalk, then go the opposite way on Altantic Ave, notably one of the most deadliest streets in NYC. wtf. so, guy in bright neon yellow jacket on a bike with an old rack on it, i do not like you as probably many people on the road! you don't own the road and you'll probably succumb to your fate one day. also some guy tearing down brooklyn bridge at the 'old fulton sprint' while i was ascending it. he was too close for comfort going way too fast. at least give me some more clearance if you're going to do that, random fast guy! too many of these fast guys this past week (way too fast on the descent). i saw one yest (one on manhattan bride during my afternoon ride) and one today. they're nearly suicidal. |

I didn't realize there was a gadgets section - uh, oh! The fly6 looks cool, but most of the dumbass things cars do are in front of me so that's where I want a camera (not so I can see what could have happened behind me!). The temps keep dropping - mid 40's today - hope it's not a trend
the fly6 is SO cool. really excited. the product features sound awesome they look awesome just waiting to see if they are actually awesome. hah. i am on the waitlist for the front light. my husband was an early kickstarter backer and already has his front light. he thinks it's great for commuting, he feels protected. he also argues that if someone hits you from behind, you want footage of that. so front and back lights make sense. agree that most of the stupid stuff i see is in front of me though. like today a MTA bus pulled into the bike lane in front of me without so much as signaling. really annoyed about that one. i hope it caught my verbal. will have to wait til i get the front light though to capture that sort of thing. one more thing about the commute. windy as heck. gulping for air on the bridge ascent only filled my mouth with dirt/sand/rocks that blew into me from the wind. two thoughts -gross. -ah spring riding. |

haha yes there is. bike computers vs. GPS watch and the various cycling apps you can use and pros/cons of each. it's kind of endless.

Half of the hill feel across the road today going to be interesting for a while!
It was raining when the alarm clock went off, so I decided to wait until it stopped before commuting to work. The roads were very wet, but it wasn't raining and I rather enjoyed my (slightly later than usual) ride in this morning. http://i1057.photobucket.com/albums/...psf61mhoac.jpg |
Yeah that's it. Was surprised to see it cleaned up this morning being KCMO. Had absolutely no lights on it though wonder how many car's almost hit it. Do you normally ride up that side? The time I go in 5am the light never works under the bridge almost hit a homeless person more than once. Gave up and just stay on the road, talk about scaring the poo out of a person!

Nooooooo, you never get rid of bikes you just get more of them! I've even come up with clever ways of hiding the old ones from my wife by calling them parts. I bought my first 'new' bike this year and although I love it I couldn't bear to get rid of its predecessor - also built frame up. But then again I'm a sentimentalist (my wife would say that's code for packrat).
Uneventful this morning though cooler then it's been - 52F. Ended up with wicked headwinds both ways yesterday, must be karma Yesterday's "commute" was a little more official, I took my project bike on a ride to my favorite LBS to get some parts ordered for a project. I left the bike at the shop for them to reference as the order parts and I set up to work at a coffee shop for a couple hours. Then I stopped at the co-op my daughter works at to get some groceries, she was surprised to see me. Her reaction reminded me of picking her up at summer camp way back when she was a kid (made for a happy dad!). Here's a picture of the project I mentioned: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-l...095052_107.jpg Parts on order: Tires (gum wall) Stem (shorter) Saddle (white) Grip tape (white) Bottle racks (white) brake pads (not 20 years old) Hope to have parts next week and have this machine ready to FLY - currently, I don't ride with a lot of aggression with 20 year old tires and brake pads, plus the long stem makes it difficult to maneuver. Edit - I noticed the mud slid picture above and reminded me... SO, SO, SO happy I'm not doing my old commute right now (working from a home office). The state closed a highway 1 mile west of my house and then started road work on the interstate 2 miles east of me (reduced lanes). The result, ALL of those cars are now on the only road that accesses our neighborhood. Total disaster. Gonna be a long summer. |
I've been off the bike for a while; I took some time away during spring break to hang out with my son. Today was my first day back, and I felt weak and slow. That said, it was a beautiful ride in, and I'm happy I got back up on the horse.

Nice ride home yesterday, cloudy. Never made it up to the forecast high of 70. It stayed in the mid-60's all day. North wind was slightly annoying but no big deal.
|
Pretty nice ride in this morning. Temps were right around freezing, didn't notice any wind. Starting to see a few more bikes out now that the trails are dry and the temperatures are going up.
