good ride in. got to the office, and found my dry-bag that had been missing for a few days. It contained some really wet biking gear and the stench (when disturbed) could have killed a man. I sealed it up and will deal with it later tonight. Might need a hazmat team.

Discouraged today. Didn't get to ride in spite of first day of bike month, had to leave work early and fast to pick up the baby. I took him for a hike in his papoose but could only trudge slowly due to my heart thing. I'm glad he's easy to please and didn't mind being ignored. My parts from the UK have still not arrived, which means I won't have a new bike for the big ride Sunday.

No ride today as there were some "complications" at work, so driving was the better option. While I was really looking forward to my Saturday commute, I've gotta say, yesterday was probably the best ride home I've had in recent memory. I felt fresh, the weather was perfect, and heck, it was day one of bike month. I've changed my regular route to now include some mixed surface riding which takes me off the roads for a few more miles. While it adds a little more distance and elevation, it also adds safety and beautiful scenery. Enjoy

Bizzare. I was really tired - I was fasting in prep for my colonoscopy (Yea! not). I reel in this guy who is riding a carbon fiber bike, me on my mtb bike with fenders and knobbies. And by "reel in" I mean I was riding maybe 10 MPH - barely moving. I didn't want to pass him, but he was just creeping along.
So I get by him, and I hear him whistling. Not like a tune - more like he's whistling for his dog. I thought, maybe that's why he's going so slow - he's looking for his dog.
But no. As I pass him, he gets right on my wheel. Still with the bizarre whistling. So I pick up the pace a little, even though I'm not feeling great. Then HE picks up the pace.
After about a half mile of this, I thought screw it, I'm dropping this nut job. Came to a section where the trail takes a turn crossing the street, but I am able to cut the turn and fly off the curb on my mtb bike. That was the end of the whistler.

Shorts weather! Really should of worn a short sleeves though.

Did alot of work on the bike this weekend. Repacked the rear wheel and crankset.. should of did it sooner!! Also had to change the freewheel since I accidentally took the Sunpro apart. Alot of balls in those things! Put a Shimano from another bike but it has smaller tooth counts but it seems to fit my usage better.

May the Fourth be with you! I rode my bike to work, as usual. Getting warmer here and starting to feel like summer. Still cool enough this morning to not sweat, but the afternoon high of 82 will probably be different.

Tough commute this morning due to tired legs from riding 120 miles over the weekend. I gutted it out because the weather is perfect and it's looking like rain could settle in during the latter part of the week. We have reached the brief period in the calendar when weather conditions -- when it's not raining -- are almost ideal for cycling. Not too hot, not too cold, not too windy, no pollen.

I LOVE SPRING! Needed to drop off a car for repairs this morning, used the bike to get home. 10 miles home with 55F and sunny, feels SO GOOD! Too bad I have to do 'work', I could spend my whole day riding.

Forgive me forum for I have sinned....
Friday, May 1, was my first bicycle commute of the year. I used to commute by bike all the time when my office was closer to home, but 17 miles each way is just tougher to manage. I did ride Friday though, and after work I rode downtown and met some friends and we did a small group ride. By the time I got home I'd done 58 miles. That's a pretty hardcore commute I guess.

I felt fast this morning. Strava says I did all right. This is a surprise after having towed the baby trailer 26 miles yesterday.

A little cool starting out but once the legs started pumping warmed up. Felt like something was wrong with the bike... the left side of the back tire was loose so maybe it was dragging on the brake. Lost my back light last night. I hate those darn things.. even though I zip tie it down it still comes off. Chain still slipping on the small front cog guess I should try removing a few links. Going to be a excellent 80 degrees on the way home.. unless it rains!

I'm back to a 5 days/week scedule. Having Fridays off was great but working 11 hours/days from 9 in the morning to 8 in the evening was not so great. Now I work from 7 to 4.
The downside is that I have to Wake at 4 in the morning so I can be here on time. Eventualy I'll settle in a routine and be able to sleep a bit more in the morning.
The upside is that I have one more day to ride my bike to work and I don't need my headlamp anymore.

Yesterday's ride was terrific. My speeds were faster than normal, which makes me think I am improving with my commitment to commute more than twice a week.
Driving today...I have to run home to let the dogs out in the early afternoon bc a bunch of us are doing happy hour and the wife is joining in for that. But I am riding from my office to the bar we selected and will ride home with wife and leave my car in the parking garage

I saw two turkeys yesterday. One was an actual wild turkey lingering about 15 feet off the side of the road.
The other was a guy who passed me in a bad spot. He gave me plenty of room, but was not anticipating that the car up ahead on a side road would turn right to come towards us without seeing the car in his lane that is passing me. It was a close one. And I guess they would both be at fault here. The guy who turned right did not look to his right first. And the guy who passed me did not do so in the safest manner possible either.
Good morning ride today. Sunny and 58F, getting up to 80+ this afternoon.

I completely forgot my bag this morning. It's the first time in over a year that I've forgotten any clothes let alone the whole bag. No wonder I felt light this morning. Fortunately for me I keep a spare change at the desk.

Nice commute this morning... and it was around 60F when I left the house. It rained last night, so the streets were still wet, but there was a definite smell of 'spring' in the air as I rode to work! Wonderful!
The temperature was nice, but the humidity was extremely high. Must have been close to 90%, because I was sweating like crazy by the time I arrived at work. Commutes for the remainder of the week are questionable as they are predicting a good chance of thunderstorms on Wed(80%), Thurs(90%), and Fri(90%).

Not-so-interesting trivia about Alpharetta, GA -- I broke my collar bone at age 16 when I flew over the handlebars on my motocross bike while riding across a farm pasture in Alpharetta. My neighbor's grandmother had a farm there, and we used to help them bale hay, and rode our motorcycles there until my mishap.

As my dad used to say: "You'd forget your head if it wasn't screwed on."

Alpharetta must have changed quite a bit since then. I don't see many farm pastures around here these days.

I am sure that farm pasture is a subdivision by now. I lived there in the 60s and 70s.
