i am!!!! i have noticed a decent drop of since some graduated but I can not wait until the last day of school! It greatly reduces the stress. I live off of a road with a High school so teenager drivers running late will be gone as well.

Rainy start to the ride this morning PLUS I hit my top speed on a bike ever today. 40.6mph without a city truck as a wind block and with panniers.

We're in the midst of our first really hot spell of the summer, with high humidity and afternoon temps in the 90s. I must be acclimated pretty well by now because it hasn't bothered me, and my morning commutes have been very pleasant. I was considering riding a metric commute along the local greenways today, but opted for two 45-miles commutes instead. Yesterday was the first, and it felt surprisingly cool along the greenways in the afternoon. The shade makes a huge difference. On my usual afternoon commute route, I get stuck at two very long traffic signals on 6-lane roads in full sunlight and heat radiating off the pavement. None of that on the greenway, or having to stop for red lights either. Perhaps I'll tackle the metric commute next week or the week after if the weather cools down or dries out a bit.

Just thought I'd check in. Wonderful riding weather the past few weeks. Due to my car needing work, I've gotten in roughly 25 commutes in a row, with no sign of stopping

78°F with 70% humidity. Actually drizzled a tiny bit on the way to work this morning.

Humid again and about 68F this morning. But still a nice morning for a ride.

I had a close call this morning though: an almost right hook. I go straight where many vehicles turn right. It's not a high traffic road, but today there were several cars in a row passing me. A little red car passed me and was far enough around me to make the right turn. But then another car starts to go around. I saw the right blinker out of the corner of my eye and knew it wouldn't get around me before the turn. With the passenger window right beside me I put my left hand out toward the car holding it up so as to mean "Stop!" I could see the driver's hands reposition on the steering wheel about to make the turn. Thankfully she realized she needed to stop and didn't make the turn until I passed the street.

Why even try to pass when you're that close? Was she that bad at judging the distance it takes to get around me? Inquiring minds want to know!

The rest of the ride was normal except for the dead skunk in the road. Stinky!

Meat pylons, fluffy things on strings, homicidal drivers in pickups, and the hipsters still learning how to ride... oh how I missed that commute.

I am gonna stick to the valley.

I got passed by someone on an e-bike; I thought I'd try to speed up and draft, so I went to the big chainring ring, but then I wound up going way ahead.

I wasn't a fan at first, either. Since I wear glasses with lenses that were fashionably small at one point, the mirror is mostly good for detecting movement behind me. But I do like it now, and notice myself missing it when walking through a parking lot. :D

My commutes this week have been warm and humid -- yay, Midwest summer weather...

In other news, commuting has seemed easier this year than previous years, so starting this week I've been upping the ante by using higher gears and pushing to go faster on the '91 Bianchi. Nothing drastic or knee-breaking, just using 75" as my minimum rather than 67", and then spending more time in the 85" or even 91" when I have a little speed going. If I have much left in the tank by the time I get back to my neighborhood, there is a steep-ish two-block hill that I like to climb. What took my lowest (45") gear on the first try, I now take in my 54" and climbed entirely in the saddle yesterday. I think I could probably do it in a 61" gear now.

Mission accomplished, BTW -- I arrive at stops panting, and at my destination with a bigger smile on my face. :)

Still another week and a half of school to go here, but my commute downtown takes me past the university area, and traffic is noticeably lighter around there from May through August. The route I ride before working from home goes past a couple schools, and yes, I'm definitely looking forward to lighter traffic around there.

Nice ride this morning for me! Supposedly not supposed to rain but I rode through FOG aka rain clouds. I think I like the light rain we had yesterday better than fog. The water droplets condensed on my glasses in a more even pattern than yesterdays random rain. I have a Metric century ride saturday and am debating driving on the day before just to give my legs a break.

I left the house at around 4:45 AM. Rode In in my work pants and a tee shirt, absolutely beautiful morning. The sun came up when I was about half way in. Got to work at about 6 for a 7 AM start, so I walked to the nearby coffee shop and sat outside with a coffee for a bit. The ride home was a different story. Kind of warm, with a headwind, and impatient folks behind the wheel. Still worth it. 30 mile round trip. The most I have been able to manage so far is two days a week, but I'm going to work on it.

There was a small rainstorm with a little hail mixed in which lasted from the time I got on the Divvy bike. It stopped right as I got to the train station. Since the weather is so unpredictable, I'm glad I got the dry bag style panniers. I am completely soaked, but my laptop is completely dry.

Well baseball season finished up last night for the young boy I have been shuttling to practice and games, not being able to commute to bike by work those days. And today's commute was great 69f degrees when I left the house with the sun just up.

I am trying to find a new way to work as I met this woman whose yard is a gorgeous garden. I decided I want to see that every day on either my way to work or home. So I have to find a way to incorporate that into my commute.

71F / 22C here in DC. After a brief cool spell and rain for about 7 days straight it seemed, we are back to summer.

And my bike is cursed: Came out of work to find my rear tire flat, again. Probably the fifth time in 5 weeks. I've replaced the wheel, tube was switched to presta and replaced four times at twosep[arate shops....it has to be the tire itself.

In the meantime I am on a City Bike Share for commuting.

No bike this morning. I have a 2nd job interview at the end of the day but it's a 40 kms away from my actual job so I didn't have much of a choice. If I get the job my new commute will be 42 kms round trip all on a seperated bike path instead of my actual 55 kms round trip commute on a rough secondary road with a 90 kmh speed limit with little or no shoulder. The job I'm hoping to get is mechanical shop manager at another Ford dealer, which, for me, would be great! So wish me luck...

(yes, they're okay with a cyclist working for a car dealer, they even told me I could park my bike in the shop. We just have to agree on the paycheck)

Similar temps here in NC. The past few mornings have been overcast, but not today. It was warm for sure. And a high of 91 this afternoon means a hot ride home.

Today is the last day of school for one county I ride in. That will help with traffic. Tomorrow is the last day for the other county. So Monday will be real nice.

Beautiful sunny morning ride. No wind. Very nice.

I woke up groggy and really was not in the mood to ride. Did it anyway. Took me about a mile or two to really wake up, but once the blood began flowing, I was able to push a really nice pace for the next hour.

Gonna be hot tonight. I sort of dread that because it was hot yesterday which slowed me down considerably. Today will be worse.

I had a rainy morning commute and 60F. Glad to have the full fenders! Looks like I'll get wet on the way home too.

A thunderstorm popped up over my afternoon commute route about 30 minutes before I normally leave work yesterday. It was the only thunderstorm showing on radar for the entire state. Just my luck. So I hung around the office for another hour until the storm passed and then headed home. I rode the long way home along the greenways for my second 45-mile commute this week. I didn't hit wet pavement from the storm until about halfway home but it wasn't too bad except I had to be cautious on wooden bridges. The storm actually cooled off the temperatures quite a bit, which was nice. I got home about 8 am, literally drenched from the high humidity.

Back to my normal commute route today as my legs need some rest. Temps are supposed to reach the 90s again today with humidity even higher.

Meat pylons, my new favorite term! Really pleasant this morning, 71F, light breeze, sunny, aaahhhh. Supposed to be over 90 this afternoon - yeah bring on the heat!

Yesterday's commute was a blast as I busted out the newly refitted road bike and whereas the previous day's commute was a 34 minute slog through rush hour where I got stopped at nearly every light, I covered the same route in under 20 without having to cough up a lung.

Not riding in rush hour makes a huge difference and when I compared Strava details my 34 minute commute had 8 minutes of waiting time and 26 minutes rolling while yesterday's commute showed the rolling time and travel time to be nearly the same. I also took the road and avoided the meat pylons on the MUP.

What I point out to prospective commuters is that, even my 34 minute commute is just as fast as driving...

every day has been great lately. Sunny, warm. A few AM tailwinds even! Awesome. (I always have a bit of a headwind in the PM since i'm heading towards the water.) A few commuter races but I try not to get too involved. lol. On the occasions that I don't get to ride (usually for family committments) I miss riding.

The other day I got hit in the forehead by a large insect that went up inside my helmet. I pulled over and took it off and...sure enough! A bee in my bonnet.

Thursday is usually a commute day, but I have a cold. Not fair to get it in the heat of summer, really! I had a long stretch of days across the weekend where I rode or hiked, and hiked with the baby in his papoose Wednesday, so not feeling too guilty.
