I'm new to commuting, started a couple of days a week about a month ago. 15 miles each way. I got asked today for the first (and probably not the last) time if I had a DUI.

San Pedro 06-03-15 06:16 PM

About a 20 mph headwind this morning. I was pushing it, but it was still an extra 5-10 minutes on an 8 or so mile ride.

HardyWeinberg 06-03-15 06:34 PM

Racing for a 2:30 appointment, got a flat a mile out at 2:22. Swapped the tube and still got there at 2:30. No time to check if the puncturing object was still inside the tire. Person I was meeting was a little late so I had time to wash my hands. Didn't repump after the appt was over but the replaced tube still got me home. Topped it up with the floor pump at home. Will see tomorrow morning I guess if it held air overnight. Meantime I did patch (again) the punctured tube. Both of these tubes have a lot of patches on them.

Perfect.. little wind and not to cool starting out and not too hot at the destination. Took my time this morning since I wasn't trying to out run the rain. Turns out a cell popped up right as I was pulling up! Kinda beat lately pretty sure I'm not getting enough sleep. Two weeks off after tomorrow for a vacation hope I find some good trails in SD, WY and CO.

essiemyra 06-04-15 05:10 AM

This is my first commute this week due to a few days of rain and it was good, even though it was a little difficult. I do not like when I do not commute by bike, I think it effects my overall well being and happiness.

dramiscram 06-04-15 05:30 AM

The whole week is quite cold so far, I mean for the month of june. yesterday morning was 2°c when I left home at 5h30. No Wind this week, it's a nice welcome break.

Love that song. And I'll be praying for you as well.

Yesterday morning's tailwind turned into the afternoon's headwind. And I must have not eaten enough before leaving work. I was dragging big time; probably had my slowest commute home ever.

Only 60F this morning with nothing but gray skies. Quite the cool June so far. Enjoyable.

Trouble free and fast. Left early and arrived to work 20 minutes earlier than usual. Perfect day so far.

Foxwear? I didn't buy a lot of new stuff this winter... well at least compared to previous years!!

Welcome to the addiction! Think about your answer to the DUI question - sometimes it's easier to say yes rather than no, I'm doing this because I want to. That starts a whole other conversation!

58F, sunny, no wind - morning temps are creeping up a degree a day so by mid July it should be perfect. Afternoon temps supposed to get to 80 - bring on the heat!

KCBikeCommuter 06-04-15 08:04 AM

It poured a couple of times during the commute this morning, so I was pretty wet. However, it didn't rain the entire way, and I had a good tail wind... so all in all not too bad.

Hypno Toad 06-04-15 08:18 AM

Holy steam bath Batman! 62F with 97% humidity. I would have been drier if it was raining!

PatrickGSR94 06-04-15 08:32 AM

Another week down, 62 total commute miles with absolutely zero negative motorist interactions. Lane control really does work!

Been a bit cool this week, which means northerly winds, which means headwinds on the afternoon commutes every time. I actually WANT it to warm up so that I'll have some nice tailwinds going home for a change. :P

Unfortunately I ended bike month with fewer miles than in April, and also for the first time in 3 years I logged fewer miles than the same month the prior year. :(

RidingMatthew 06-04-15 08:53 AM

THanks mgw4jc I would appreciate it.

Another cooler than normal (58degreesF) with some scattered raindrops and fairly foggy. I think June is trying to make up for a dry May. I sure hope it clears up. 30% chance of Precip according to weather app instead of 70% like it said last night for today. I hope it is right. :fingerscrossed:

I think I am slower in my rain coat but cant prove it. I do feel like more people see me in it. Bright green with reflective stuff all over it. If only more people used their headlights in the rain/ fog mess we have had lately.

snow_echo_NY 06-04-15 10:50 AM

uh i rode half a mile on my way to work before i realized i didn't have my helmet. i rode all the way back to get my helmet and get going again.
this added 1.3 miles to my commute this AM! lol

saying good bye twice to the little one was a bit hard.

earlier this week it was pouring and it got cold here in NYC. i rode in and out for both days of pouring rain. one thing i did notice how odd it is to take a shower after a shower.

also riding in pouring rain is way way harder than riding in frigid temps (~10-20F). give me layers any day over pouring rain. i had the right rain jacket, hood and everything, but the bike was getting blown about by wind plus the roads were slippery plus it was just harder to pedal (for not as much response). it was better than the subway, but still i understand why some commuting cyclists remain only fair weather cyclists.

It was 72 and humid when I got to work this morning, you're kind of weather arsprod!

It was interesting... to say the least.

Homicidal grannies, overzealous cops, and the bright spot was young children dancing to the reggae I was playing on the bridge.

I rode the MTB this week. The Super Sport has been out of commission waiting for me to work on the RD. I'm conflicted. It's slow but it's nice to have low gears. I'm eager to get my Frankenbike finished. Once it's in commission, I might start thinking about selling the SS, as it will be redundant. However I don't know how I'll like the Frankenbike and don't want to jump the gun.

otg 06-04-15 05:07 PM

Commuted yesterday and today, 60 miles. Feeling it today, I think I'm going to drive tomorrow. I'll wait until morning to decide for sure, but I was kind of run down at work today.

I don't understand this. If you are irresponsible enough to get your license suspended, wouldn't you also be irresponsible enough to continue driving with your license suspended?

esmith2039 06-05-15 04:58 AM

Guess I'm a fair weather rider today. Too much lightning and too many bridges to cross. Off for vacation the next 2 weeks.

essiemyra 06-05-15 05:12 AM

It was another nice commute this morning, the temp was 48f degrees when I left the house. Mostly clear skies and the road makes a great ride!

tarwheel 06-05-15 06:19 AM

When I got up, I thought we were finally getting a break in the relentless rain we've had this week because nothing was showing on the radar. However, I found out otherwise when I went outside to get the newspaper. Another day of heavy mist and drizzle here that is too fine to show up on radar, but heavy enough to soak you in minutes. I went ahead and rode because I had already missed three commutes this week and the forecast is finally calling for clearing skies late in the afternoon. The mist was so heavy that I had to remove my glasses after a while because I couldn't see through them or keep them clear. Other than that, it felt good to be back on my bike and my legs felt great after the rest.
