Babying my cut finger, which may have deserved a stitch. It welled up twice yesterday. Would rather let it heal than use it for shifting and braking. So, drove. :-/
|
It was over 50 degrees F this morning! It's not always that warm even in the middle of summer at my house in the morning. Nice ride though, with only two cars passing me in 9 miles. I could see the Cascade skyline from the top of the ridge.
|
Got caught in a mega rain storm. Then it started lightening two miles from the house. But I made it home...:(...soaked to the bone.
|
So exhausted and tired yesterday for some reason (maybe getting sick). I really dogged it on the way home into a little head wind. On the plus side I did practice getting LOW on my bars. My thighs were telling my gut to get out of the way.
This mornings ride went better. This will be the last day of a full week of commuting. My boday shape is starting to improve, so jazzed about that. |
Last evenings commute home was eventful. I had a lightning show and then the rain came. I thought oh okay, I will not take a shower when I get home, but I had to as the water from the road was splashed up on me from cars the last 1/4 mile home because I live off of a very main road. That was my first heavy rain storm. The water was running like rivers on the side of the road as it could not clear fast enough.
This mornings commute was nice, another biker passed me on my ride. I heard him at a very late point because he was upside me when I realized there was someone. We both said hi and he passed me. He turned at the corner. The temp was 57f degrees this am with sunny skies. |
Wohoo beat the rain again today! Better not brag it may bite me someday. Really pushed and made it in record time.
Had to readjust my handlebars as I put the stem above the max line and didn't notice it. Surprising my hand numb-ness seems less with it lower. Still need to do something as it seems uncomfortable. Weird is took 600+ miles to show up. Would like to replace the stem but of course the front brake goes through it. Going to get a butterfly bar next week and new gloves and go from there. |
Back in the saddle after travelling abroad to fetch my family after almost two years of visa paperwork (If anyone wants advioce on the immigration process feel free to IM me here in Bike Forums).
After a week of spring DC jumps right into heat and humidity. My bike was waiting at the LBS upon my return but I have to say I was dissapointed with the service. Seat was left in wrong position; rear tire was flat morning after I brought it home (mechanic forgot to put the liner in); and they never took a look at my shifting issues which I specifically mentioned before I left. Coming in this a.m. I encountered more rubbing of the front derailer against the chain/sprocket. After three stops I think I finally understand what I need to adjust and where. But I'll still take that any day over sitting in our metro! |
Nicest commute of the week this morning with temps in the 60s and little wind. Got lucky yesterday and avoided any thunderstorms. The weather is very humid here right now, so afternoon thunderstorms are always a possibility. Welcome to summer, even though it hasn't started officially.

Humid and overcast morning - typical. 68F. I saw a groundhog on the edge of the road this morning. It would have made for a pretty good picture as he was lit up by the morning sun, but I was going to fast and he was already about to scurry away with me buzzing by. I'm just glad he didn't go squirrelly on me and bolt onto the road. I'll be around 480 miles for May after today. Not bad. I kinda hope to hit 5,000 this year. I'm a little behind because February was low (241) but we have a lot of warm months coming up. |
Woke up early with plans to take the long way to work. So, I hurried through the shower and hustled the dogs through their morning walk-routine, and off I went, adding 15 miles to the 20 mile morning commute.
It was definitely worth it! |
Another perfect Spring morning - 65F, sunny, slight headwind. Another commuter caught up with me and commented that he noticed I was riding a new bike. He said I deserved since he knew I was out there every day. Aw shucks, head swell

Last day, last commute. Couldn't have asked for better weather, the sun was shining the temp was rising as I rode, and best of all I had a nice 8mph (not much, but I'll take it) tailwind the whole way in - this has only happened maybe once in the last year of commuting. Unfortunate that with the holiday Monday and having to drive the rest of the week that today was the only day this week I could ride in. Ironically I wasn't even going to come in today, since my office has already been packed up and there's only 5 of us who actually showed up today. Starting a new job, in a more demanding environment on Monday. Best part is the commute is only 20 miles round trip and is much more direct - although the risk of being run over by a tractor trailer going 70 mph is increased.

No commuting this week with weather and travel. I did get a nice 70-mile ride in Las Vegas on Wednesday. Arrived in Vegas early for a business trip, met up with a friend, rented a road bike and biked around the hills/mountains on the west side of town. Hot, but a great day. :)
Now I'm getting ready for the Dirty Kanza 100-mile gravel-grinder on Saturday. I'm hoping mother nature will finally turn off the rain for this weekend. We are on the 29th day of the month and I believe we've had rain 26 of those 29 days thus far. It rained again last night to keep the streak going. :( |

Nice to ride without a 30kt wind for a change. The past few days have been rough but today sun, 10 knot wind and a gorgeous sunrise.
|
3 commutes this week and I avoided the daily rain showers. Left work early yesterday and really took my time going home. Best bike commute in awhile. Finally tracked down some noise I've been having to a loose bottom bracket. I hate those little noises!

A raccoon came out of the woods in front of me in my way to work. I ran it over felt off my bike and hurt my right hand really bad. Made to the office got on a work vehicle went to urgent care to get my swollen hand checked, no broken bones but really painful. my wife is coming to get me for the return home.
every body in the office thought it was the funniest thing ever |
bike to work week in full swing here. I had to miss the "Bikes & Beers" event at the Museum of Vancouver due to swimming lessons (kids and my own) last night.
My route has many more cyclists than the other 51 weeks of the year. It's always a pretty popular route, but this week has been crazy. |
Today is the 4th straight day of bike commuting and 5th day of riding in a row! I have surpassed my all time miles for one month and I havent ridden home yet! Hope to get a ride saturday and sunday if possible to finish the month strong.

Are you sure they did any servicing of the bike? Was it better or worse when you left it there? :P
Last week I posted about my saga of dropping off my bike for repair and then having a rear flat next morning. Well, the rear has gone flat two more times: New wheel, new lining tape...second bike shop yesterday after it went flat yet again. He removed the fender completely (was really hugging too closely)....this morning? Yep, flat. Again. It's the tire itslef, it must be. Monday--75F/24C and managed to pick the world's loudest bike share for Plan B. |
A bit cool but at least no rain! Cleaned the bike yesterday and put on my new 1200 lumens light.. quite a difference! After the ride on the trail yesterday a bit of asthma is back. Never have a problem on the commute. Thinking the trail is cursed.

Ended May with 486 miles. Biggest month so far this year, well, only 1.5 miles more than March actually.
Warm and humid ride in this morning, but enjoyable. Afternoon thunderstorms are a possibility all week. We need the rain though, so I hope it happens. I'll get a rescue from the wife if it looks bad, otherwise I'll just get wet. |
Nice riding weather: 45°F with the wind at my back the whole way in. I imagine what the morning gave, the afternoon will take away, at even higher velocity along with some rain. But, that is a bridge to cross later. Right now, I'll just be grateful for that nice ride in.

Warm and humid with temps in the low 70s this morning, and very pleasant for riding. Afternoon will be much hotter with the usual scattered thunderstorms. Every day is a crapp shoot regarding thunderstorms from now until the end of summer.
