no motor? 06-30-15 11:20 AM

Nice and calm weather for the ride in today, I could have fallen asleep while I was cooling off outside.

PatrickGSR94 06-30-15 11:21 AM

Cooling off outside? Haha that's not even possible around here with the morning humidity levels.

Nice ride this morning. About 56 degrees F and dry. And I'm catching a ride to Salem this afternoon for a co-worker's retirement party, so won't need to catch the bus here in Stayton and hope it gets downtown in time to get on my other bus out to Dallas! Last week they didn't make it. I watched my other bus pull out as we pulled into the the transit mall. That sucks. There's another bus a half hour later, but it takes a longer route so ends up getting me back to my bicycle an hour later than I'm supposed to. Oh well, it was a cooler ride home that way, and this time of year it's still light the whole way.

As I'll be on an earlier bus I think I'll ride home a longer route, including one of the steepest paved climbs I know of around here:

I did go that route. At first, I was wondering why I thought that first hill was so steep, but then I finished climbing it in first gear, still standing up, and remembered. It's a pretty ride though, with very little motor traffic.

I forgot to mention that no cars passed me on the whole 9 miles in this morning. That hasn't happened for several months. Nice and peaceful. I hope to try it again Thursday.

Wet streets, but no active precipitation. Got off to a late start and had to hammer my way into work this morning so I could make a meeting.

caloso 06-30-15 01:41 PM

Yelled at the driver of a Land Rover to use the turn signal. I could read the car body language that it was going to turn and backed off before I got hooked, but I think a gentle reminder for the future was in orders.

I rode extra miles to work this morning. 17 total then we had a volunteer opportunity near work and I rode to it. I have 23miles so far today and I have not ridden home yet.
finishing up June strong.

70F / 21C An apocalyptic storm blew through overnight...lt's of trees debris on the streets and sidewalks this morning.

Beautiful ride in this morning, 69F and raining. :D Got to test out my new rear blinkie in the rain and it did just fine.

Made my last trip to my Eden Prairie office and this was the view:

I will miss the daily commute, but I'm enjoying the home office and take my bike where I want to go every day.

mgw4jc 07-01-15 06:59 AM

Nice tailwind ride home last night. My average speed 18.7mph was a good 2 mph faster than normal. That was kind of fun.

Muggy but not too hot for the ride in this morning: 69F.

I ended June with about 490 miles. Not too bad then.

arsprod 07-01-15 07:23 AM

Saw a riding buddy on Monday and gave him a hard time for wearing his shoe covers when it wasn't raining. He said with the way storms have been popping up it was better safe than sorry. Guess who rode in wet shoes this morning! When I left work yesterday it was cloudy but dry. Within 15 minutes it was raining so hard I couldn't see. Today it's sunny and clear. Schizo weather

Telly 07-01-15 08:01 AM

It started out as a nice summer day, rather cool for the season (27*C/80*F), and it's 1 hour before I have to leave work for home and there's a massive thunderstorm which seems to be hovering in the area!

Rain isn't a problem for my commute, but since I take the coastal road home, I'm a bit worried of lightning which has been known to hit the street lights on my route.

RidingMatthew 07-01-15 08:34 AM

It was sprinkling when I left work yesterday and by the time I got less than a mile from work the wide was blowing 15mph and raining hard. The rain felt like needles riding at 14mph + the wind blowing it another 15mph. I took shelter under a bridge and figured I would wait it out. I finally have a smartphone and was able to see that the radar showing moving away and being clear behind the storm. It did and eventually do that. I was cold (it was 70 or so degrees plus wind plus being wet) in the shade of the bridge when the sun came and the rain let up I pushed on. I think I enjoyed the faces of people driving who would look at my headlight look away and then look back with a confused look on their face..."that guy is riding in the rain and the sun is out." it felt good to be wet after a bit when the sun had returned.

My bike was so dirty though and that is with fenders. I cleaned it and relubed the chain last night. Rode wonderfully this morning in.

570 miles this month the most I have ridden in a month.

How about a picture of those gardens? Or did I already miss it somewhere?

mgw4jc, I have not posted pictures of the gardens, so you did not miss them. I am not sure that it would be the right thing to do as the gardens belong to the homeowner and I am not sure that they want their gardens posted online without their permission. I would also have to stop in front of their house and snap those pics(my phone and picture taking skills are both lacking.).

Understood. I'll just imagine lots of green with many blooms. :)

Another nice commute to work though I am not sure the turkeys would agree. I almost ran some over watching while watching them cross to the left but ignoring the right where they started. There were still some there. So one baby took flight, but the rest just ran. Anyway, no creatures were hurt by me today!

mgw4jc 07-02-15 06:27 AM

Last ride in for the week. July 4 holiday weekend begins tomorrow.

Nice ride in this morning but with a couple of squirrels threatening to cross my path. They thought twice and stayed away. I added a couple of miles and was just shy of 15 for the ride in.

Rode some extra this morning and was almost late for work plus it started sprinkling. I will probably be getting wet on the way home today. 50% chance of rain :\

esmith2039 07-02-15 08:52 AM

Into the wind again.. and when I go home into the wind again. Getting tired of battling of the wind 80% of the time. Guess I'm getting tired.. driving tomorrow due to heading to the campground. Other than the wind not bad.

timvan_78 07-03-15 09:32 AM

great commutes lately. hot and dry...sunny every day. Very unusual for these parts for June. Sure could use some rain.
I left the house late this AM and hit every light green and hammered it here, and arrived on time. No wind.

I'll be moving late aug...bought half a duplex about 10 blocks away from the condo we live in now--same commute distance.

MikeRides 07-03-15 10:02 AM

Loaned my parents my car for a weekend trip so I had a 15.5 mile ride from their house to work this morning. Couldn't have asked for a better day to ride, SUNNY, cool, and next to no wind. I was tempted to play hookey and keep riding when I got to work but decided in the end to do the responsible thing. Got a 50 mile ride home this afternoon to enjoy the nice weather, hopefully it won't get too hot today.

60F is cold? it was 65 for my commute this morning, and I was quite warm! 60F is ideal riding temps, IMHO.

Another late start, another hammer into the office, only to find out that the meeting I thought was at 9:00 was actually at 10:00.

It is for July, just like 45 is warm for January!!

6 miles into my commute, I felt rear going flat. Tire changing includes checking the flatted inner tube for the problem and then carefully inspecting the inside of the tire for glass shards still stuck in the tire. I found the leak in the tube and the corresponding exposed cords on the tire. I put a dollar bill and new tube in and headed home at a slower pace. So I drove to work :-) Fortunately, I had a pair of Conti GP4000s in my closet. I think 5000 miles on the Schwalbe Duranos was good value. The Contis have wear indicators!
