Today was the ninth day in a row I rode to work.

That's a new record for me.

enigmaT120 07-31-15 12:10 PM

I've never worked 9 days in a row. I like it that way.

Nice ride this morning. It's supposed to be up around a hundred this afternoon but I brought a second liter water bottle, so I'll still take the long ride home. 31 for the day.

Having a hard time these days. The new job is a lot more physical then the previous one. Compare to a lot of people it's not bad but I was used to sit at a desk 40h/week. Also the new commute is tougher, harder on the legs, on my way to work I go east so I have the dominant wind at my back but it's a constant climb from St-Césaire to Granby. On my way back It's going down but I have a constant headwind. The good thing is that my new commute is all the way on the bikepath.

txcrash 07-31-15 02:20 PM

Commute in today was good. Took it super easy, as I am planning on going the long way home, have promised myself that I'll make the 300 miles for the month.

We'll see how I feel once I'm on the road, though. Last couple nights I haven't gotten enough sleep so I'm dragging ass.

Finding my legs finally after a two-week bikeless vacation.

Just need to vent at idiot cyclists.

I was driving downtown today and I had passed a cyclist the I started to coast knowing I was coming to a stop, going to turn right and there was a cyclist on my right. I knew he was there so I kept coasting and the switched my signal light on as he got even and was passing me. He shoulder checked me and I made eye contact, I smiled and a waved for him to continue. Instead he cursed at me and gave me the finger. I never even merged or even started to drift into the cycle lane knowing he was there.

My wife and the two other adults were wondering what his issue was, it ended up at the decision he is just aggressive. Or maybe he wanted me to right hook him?

I am just fed up with idiot cyclists doing stupid things. Ever since my accident I see more and more stupid things and and I can't help but wonder why me.

^ Maybe he was CUI (Cycling Under the Influence). Saw a drunk cyclist nearly commit suicide by riding on the street right in front of an oncoming car. Luckily for him the car braked hard.

No he looked like a fairly regular commuter. Maybe he's used to being right hooked and expected it.

Rain! Rained the whole way home. It's fun when it's only once in a while!

txcrash 07-31-15 07:45 PM

Tried yet another new route to the train stop I've made my destination lately and with a few tweaks, I think it'll be my new route. Friday drivers are always a little more aggressive, and this was no exception, but all in all a quiet, laid back ride with a couple decent hills.

Small wooden pedestrian bridge, rose garden, lots of empty residential streets, and a touch of busy streets to keep things interesting.

100 miles for the week, 300 for the month.

baron von trail 07-31-15 08:28 PM

Had a good ride, but it was a tough one. Good weather with wind at my back coming home. But, since it was my fourth 50-mile commute in a row, I felt the fatigue. So, I took it slow. That made it nice though as I had a chance to really appreciate the woods I ride through.

M.R.Serecka 08-02-15 12:08 PM

no commute today, but, I am looking forward to tomorrow!

Congrats on hitting your goal for the month.

It was really strange when I got to work and as changing clothes. Everything was dry. My hair was dry. My face was dry. My shirt, my shorts and my under**** were dry.

I did not break a sweat on the ride in. It was about 67F and somewhat humid. But must have been just cool enough that I didn't sweat at all. This has not happened for at least a couple of months. I believe I will be back to summer sweat this afternoon and the rest of the week though.

We had three days of low humidity over the weekend here but I was out of town with limited opportunities to ride. Back on my commute routine this morning, and the humidity has shot back up. Fortunately, the weather is supposed to be dry over the next few days, but increasingly hot. I can't wait for September to get here, assuming the heat and humidity back off.

arsprod 08-03-15 07:31 AM

Very wet from storms last night but otherwise pleasant. I'm doing a tour next week (GAP/C&O) so riding fully loaded this week to get the setup right before the real trip. I think I've got it nailed other than thoughts of getting a cog with lower gears!

baron von trail 08-03-15 08:47 AM

Passed on the commute today as it was thunder and lightening when I was due to leave the house. Also, more of the same expected during the return home commute. So, I used the opportunity to drive in some fresh clothes and pick up a nice supply of food.

HardyWeinberg 08-03-15 09:10 AM

2000' ride to work today, up the hill from the mechanic I dropped the car off with.

tdreyer1 08-03-15 09:31 AM

Decent morning ride in, but I was surprisingly wibbly on the steering... did a very short tour this weekend and am wondering if it might be from being tired or from switching back to an unloaded front rack... not sure.

no motor? 08-03-15 10:42 AM

This mornings ride was great even if I could still feel the after effects of my ride home Sunday night into a 20 - 35 mph headwind.

bmthom.gis 08-03-15 11:01 AM

I drove today with the intention of bringing my work laptop in with me to live at work for awhile, since the project I was working on has finished. Also brought in some other stuff. I got halfway to work before I realized I left the darn computer at home. Blah. At least I remembered my coffee cup.

50voltphantom 08-03-15 11:04 AM

This morning's ride was beautifully cool and calm but I notice they're were just moving equipment into place to re-surface one of the main roads I take so I may have to find an alternate route/gravel roads this evening. Makes me glad I switched from 23's to 33's last week.

RidingMatthew 08-03-15 11:16 AM

Rode 11.4 miles this morning on my road bike then drove to work with food for a week and clothes refresh. It was almost not worth it. passed close by 3 cars and chased by 2 big dogs. I will ride the road bike to work the rest of the week. :thumb:

I ordered some new tires since I called about 3 bike shops and none had decent 700X 28 to fit my commuter. They had bigger 37mm or smaller 23mm but nothing 28mm. So I ordered some online and paid less than if I had ordered from the bike shop. I am not sure why 2 of the stores did not even seem to want to work with me to order some tires that fit my requirements. Could it be too much racing and fast road riding vs utility cycling? I am really sad another shop did not call back in 3 days. They lost my business.. :(

50voltphantom 08-03-15 11:29 AM

^That's kinda nuts since 25-28's seem to be pretty popular lately....

Darth Lefty 08-03-15 12:53 PM

Yesterday's smoke from the Rocky Fire cleared out and I took the Ronald McDonald bike on its first commute. Fast! Not fond of the compact handlebars, though.

M.R.Serecka 08-03-15 02:43 PM

nice commute both ways. bought some produce on the way home.
saw a trike with no handle bars this morning. it looked like a unicycle with training wheels. lol.

mgw4jc 08-04-15 06:29 AM

Warmer and a bit more humid this morning, but not bad. Looking forward to a day off tomorrow. My youngest is turning 10 years old and we're going to a water park for the day.

There is a dead deer in a field across from my neighborhood entrance. It smells bad from about 50 yards away.

Yes, my experience too and I don't even try most LBS's anymore because they're focus is either racer-wannabe's or the casual, beach cruiser rider. It's sad that most bike shops don't do much to change the pervasive attitude of bicycle riding in this country, that it's a leisure activity rather than a viable transportation alternative. Sermon over.

62F this morning - cold fingers

bmthom.gis 08-04-15 07:16 AM

The shop I frequent doesn't carry the brand I like, but they will eventually order what I want. I say eventually, because I used to work with the manager and hang out with her....she is often forgetful unless I catch her at the register and make it a point to order something. For things I need to order I usually just go online myself. OTOH, I got a few set of free tires from her awhile back (branded Bike Street USA which went out of business last year) so I don't raise too much of a fuss.

My ride in was awesome. Took a road I have been wanting to try for awhile but always kept forgetting about. Turned out to be a terrific route! I love when that happens. It was also hazy so the temps were fairly nice.

KCBikeCommuter 08-04-15 07:33 AM

Lower humidity and cool temperatures this morning. Nice ride!

baron von trail 08-04-15 07:35 AM

Perfect morning. No wind, sunny, 59°F with negligible humidity. Absolutely one of those days when you know exactly why you bike commute.
