Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Ouch, looks like someone needs a new kit. Did you go down on some of the concrete?

Finally got my bike mostly done.

1990 Bianchi Volpe built up with spare used parts from other friends. Still need to get proper pedals and a chain keeper(Paul keeper is back ordered, grrrr)

Taking it for it's first ride tonight at our weekly practice, expecting lots of mud!

Updated the brakes to FSA SLK's and got a WTB Silverline Pro saddle for $40 off of Chainlove. Looks and brakes much better! I'm not sure how comfy the saddle will be coming from my tried and true Regal, but it was taking too much abuse.

Can't remember if I've posted already or not. In training mode with some touring tires. And someone had asked about brake to tire clearance with the mini-Vs and though these aren't my usual cross tires of course, you can see there is tons of clearance still. Campy 10-speed shifters, sram 9-speed cassette, Shimano low-normal mtb rear derailleur, campy front derailleur, sram rival cranks, ritchey wcs fork, seatpost, bars, stem, tektro mini-v brakes... mix-n-match fun!

they are tektro r556. came stock with the bike. they work fine. probably better than a lot of cheap canti brakes, and no noise.

Great looking bike!

How did you get your Campy 10 to work with Shimano 9? I've got a bunch of Shimano stuff that I would put with Mirage 10 brifters (I have a QS front and the derailleur for that, so no problem) if I knew if would shift correctly. I'm assuming your Shimano rear derailleur is 9 speed?

Thanks. I think it'll work with just about any Shimano derailleur except the brand new mountain 10 speed derailleurs since they've changed the cable pull to derailleur movement ratio on those. But any 9-speed era mountain derailleur or 9 or 10 speed road derailleur should work great. I used the jtek shiftmate to adapt the cable pull, but there is also an "alternative" cable clamping at the derailleur that guys have used to get 10-speed campy to shift 9-speed shimano. I haven't tried the different cable clamping, but with the jtek it works flawlessly.

My derailleur is "low-normal" which means that it is at "rest" on the largest cog instead of the usual smallest cog. This means I hit the thumb button on the campy shifter to downshift up the cassette to easier gears. These are kind of a novelty that never caught on, but I think it works great for a cyclocross bike or any off-road applications where you go around a corner and suddenly realize you need to downshift several gears because of a hill. You can even dismount for an obstacle and downshift the thumb button while running with the bike and when you hop back on it will shift immediately to an easier gear to get you going again. And also when climbing from the hoods or even the tops, you can still reach the button easily to downshift again. I got this idea from Andrew Yee of Cyclocross Magazine (https://www.cxmagazine.com/).

It looks kind of goofy with the jtek pulley just before the derailleur, but I must say it does work great:

My new to me Lemond Poprad. I need to change out the steaming piece of dung Avid 4s for a set of old XT cantis or Dia-Compes and the wheels currently on are the road set.
