One of each! I have a IZIP dash throttle. Now thinking of buying a Haibike Urban once I sell my motorcycle. I think ebikes are actually more fun than motorcycles, I live in traffic hell Seattle.

Based on my experience riding a Haibike XDURO with Bosch motor for three weeks and trying everything in sight at the expo last Friday, you'll love that bike. Relax as it flattens the hills.

I don't want a throttle on my ebike. I love how it helps me through my winter commutes.

I only run thumb or half twist throttles, PAS systems tend to jerk on and off and are likely okay for those that are limited to less than 500 watts or mainly ride at 20 or 30km/h. I have a full twist throttle on my 1500 watt e-scooter, but find that when moving it around manually (pushing) sometimes you forget that it's turned on and 'idling'.

OC, my BBS02 with a 22 amp controller and 52V battery has a nice power curve even though it's only sensor measures crank rpm. Not as nice as the Bosch off road, but fine on tarmac.
2702, you might want to consider an MTB even for the street since the one I rode (Haibike XDURO hardtail $3000) attained 20 mph very rapidly and climbed well. The slight power loss from the tires might be offset by a more comfortable ride. Also, you might be able to have the tires switched when you purchase it and get some smooth ones - I'd suggest maybe 29" (700c) X 32-40.

My BionX PAS is smooth as silk, can't really notice it come on or off... The throttle, now that is different, instant on, instant off when it reaches 32KM/Hr...

I believe elsewhere I've stated how well the Bionix system works... until you need to repair it. I'm surprised to hear that your Bionix throttle jerks on and off, I'd think for the cost and hype involved, it would be more linear.

Yea, I suspect the throttle set up is an afterthought, a catch up with other systems... Not enough research/development went into it, unlike the PAS system, it is perfect.... As for fixing the BionX set up when things go wrong they do, do an excellent job as far as my experience in my 4 years of owning one can attest... Fixing one on your own I would say would/could be "problematic" as it is a proprietary system, and I suspect most do it yourselfers would never buy this system anyways...

350, three DIY kits, which all function adequately, taught me that you can't go wrong with BionX. Only BionX and a few OEM companies offer two or three year warranties on their batteries; this should reflect something about the quality. My next purchase will be a Bosch system or 500w BionX (especially now that they have a 28 mph system for those of us in CA).

I have the opportunity to ride an electric bike for a few days - it is throttle only. I have done 1.5 commutes (12 miles) so far with it, but my impressions so far are that I wish it were PAS instead.
Keeping the throttle twisted makes my hand hurt, while the throttle is on, it actively resists going over 20 mph. The way I am using it the throttle basically becomes about a toggle switch, if I am pedaling, I get the assist, but otherwise I'll release and coast. It just feels to strange to throttle up without pedaling.
I had been looking at doing an 8fun mid-drive on my 29'er, and am now thinking that if I go that route a thumb throttle or no throttle would be best.

I call it the throttle but it is really the power selector "full throttle" is full power, so I turn it to full power when going up a hill. A fun thing to do is to turn it to full power at the traffic light with the brake lever pressed, when the brake lever is pressed the engine is "dead". When it turns to green I release the brake lever and peddel as hard as I can. The engine takes care of the inertia so I go like a rocket, even leaving the cars in the dust.

No throttle for me. I enjoy riding and I enjoy getting a bit of exercise. For me a motor is for lessoning my effort a bit going up hills, in to high winds, or when I've got a really heavy cargo load. I don't want it to do any more than that. For any more it's scooter or motorbike time.

Pulling the trigger on a eBike this week. Going for a mid-drive but trying to be stealthy as I can. No throttle would be fine with me I think, so if I can install without it, I will. Been using a 4.7l Tundra to go get milk, that's nuts.

I only use the thottle when climbing a hill, and then only when it is actually needed. Throttling without pedalling is rather boring with small watt motors and certainly isn't bicycling.
For me the throttle is a 100% on or 100% off thing. Don't find a need for varying the throttle, so an on/off "button" throttle/override would meet my needs. 99% of the time the PAS and my legs do the trick just fine.
Although my eMTB has a throttle and is not limited to 20mph, I don't think I'd miss either of those CA non-Class 1 features if my system had a Torque Sensor to apply full power on hills automatically no matter what level the PAS is set to at the time; even better if the application of torque sensors power was adjustable/setable to what you want.
It'd be nice to be 100% Class 1 California legal, but when climbing hills I need something that applies the power like a throttle does to prevent stalling out.
This is my current area of eMTB research...

As I said in another thread, a CA legal Haibike XDURO changed my mind about the 20 mph limit; didn't mind it a bit and was able to ascend any hill that challenged; however, can easily see where I might not have set my sights "high enough".

I have pedal-assist and twist throttle, and only shopped for that combination from the start -after a learning period. I mostly use pedal-assist; but I often NEED throttle too, and wouldn't want to do without either.

From what I've found, since I travel with my bike, its the regulations of various cities that are getting rid of the throttle.

This is correct, everyone's last chance to buy a throttle ebike is not going to be long. I am still more than happy with my Ebike the IZIP Dash, the thing is so freaking fun.

IMO when using the throttle it's a moped, even when one pretends to pedal... If you have a motor bigger than 250 watts.
