Need some help with a Bionx / Atlantis build
Hi,
My Atlantis has been collecting dust for about 5 years. I want to move my Bionx system over from a Bike Friday to the Atlantis. The electric Bike Friday is nice but I'm dong more rides with my family and we have to load up the bikes in the van...and the BF is too heavy with the motor / battery.
I spoke with the Bionx tech guy and he said the system would transfer fine. So, I need to get some new parts and need some help.
What kind of rear rim should I use. I plan to go with the Marathon Supreme 28 x 50 tires. The Bionx hub has 18 holes. I want something strong and designed for an electric hub. Bionx sells a rim. I could get that...unless there is anything better. Ryde rims look great but I'm not sure how available they are in the USA.
How about a front rim? The Atlantis has an old Suntour hub that still works fine but I'd like to upgrade the rim to something stronger and wider to fit the fat Marathons.
I'd like to put some new brakes on the bike. The current brakes never worked that well. The bike has some old Suntour XC Pro levers that I'd like to keep for sentimental reasons. I don't really want to spend top dollar...maybe $120 range. I just want something that works well.
How about chains for a 9 speed cassette? Sorry, I'm out of touch with bike parts.
Thank you very much,
Dave

I'd trust the BionX rim based on the quality of their components, but have no experience. Salsa made a 36 hole cyclocross rim, the Delgado (I built up one and have a bare rim), that has provided excellent service, but don't know whether they're still available. The chain isn't stressed with a hub drive like with a mid-drive, so most good chains should work, KMC to save money, Shimano XT or XTR for premium service IMO.

Thanks for the reply.
I spoke with Schwalbe and they highly recommended a new tubeless for ride quality...Almotion 700 x 50.

Since I'm building up new wheels I might give that a try.
