Firedog,
I am looking for 1000W EPLUS, any leads? can you find one for me? I am off work so I can post more. Using EPLUS motor with external controller - I don't even know what to start with. As we know EPLUS uses FOC controller with field weakening inside motor , even if you can choose one to pair with Eplus plain motor you must remember that EPLUS does not have hall sensor wires leaving motor. Thin wires you see are RS485 protocol comm wires. |

So I have ridden over 18,000km on my EPLUS.

Wow!That's an impressive accomplishment. Hopefully mine will soon be back on the road. The D Cells were bad, so I broke down the cell packs and removed the cells, and replaced them. Getting there:

you replaced "them" with what cells, used ones, no brand new?

Found my number inside on battery assembly:

I have put the entire battery hub module together. No luck thus far communicating with the console. Before I replaced the batteries, when I attempted the trickle charge, I had was able to boot the console for a split second several times by hooking it straight to the hub module. Now nothing. When I hook the battery module up to the charger, it is flashing yellow, and appears to be taking a charge.

Control is good but not as sophisticated. Wife and I have 2000 miles on a tandem (36v 800W) with no issues. Lots of weight and big hills everywhere. If something breaks, $200 get you a new hub, wheel, tire, and controllers. Of course, we're in sunny Cal, retired and don't have to go out in bad weather. That's the key. Thanks for setting me straight on the EPLUS hub motor. Is there a discussion of the EPLUS motor design online? I need an education. My addition of the LI-NiMnCo tool batteries in parallel with the NiMH front hub battery has work out very well with no issues after several hundred miles. More range and speed than I can use. I used the E+'s battery B red/black leads with a manual switch on the red. It seems to be a straight parallel connection to the 36v hub battery. I turn off the switch when parked, otherwise the NiMH tries to charge the LI Ion; just a few watts but it's wasteful. The battery B's data connector is unconnected and the controller seems happy with that. The display reports only the output and SOC of the hub battery. It never exceeds 300watts, even when the motor is certainly pulling over 1000W. The 2s2p tool batteries can are rated at 60a @ 36V so most of the load comes from them. The question. The original design, was the optional B battery used at the same time as the A hub battery? Could you switch and use just A or just B or both? I suspect both had to be used together in parallel. I love to find a circuit diagram. |
Thank you Firedog.
I need another Eplus as a winter commuter only, changing tires on my summer Eplus is so much pain. Thank you again for looking around for me for 1000W Eplus. San Diego South California? - perfect spot for looking for Eplus -must had been sold hundreds in Californa. I dont know if I asked you before, but Can you tell me what is written on the sticker between spokes on your motor? Of course battB was never at the same time on with A batt, of course. You have a logo A and logo B on your Eplus display. Let me check manual,it is not much technical but maybe there is something there. |
Hello all, fairly new to the forum, lurker for awhile. I have a 1000w Eplus that runs perfectly. On current NIMH batteries gets 15 mile range with HEAVY throttle use in the foothills of so cal where I live, it's practically like San Francisco here. I love this bike and worked hard and spent a lot of money to get it running. But if I was given an offer I couldn't refuse, I might consider selling it... Only because it's really heavy and I have to take it down stairs to the street. If I sold it now, I'd almost want what it was new though. Anonimojones@gmail.com.

Look inside EPLUS motor controller.
Eplus uses SpaceVector PWM controller also known as Field Oriented Control which provide smooth, silent ,vibration-free operation. You can see green LEDs which are diagnostics LEDs. They show voltages are present ,fifth LED shows hall sensors operations. last picture shows DSP chip which does all calculations. Pleasure to look at, right? |

MY WINTER 1000W EPLUS.
I am about to finish building my EPLUS winter commuter. Alberta, Canada environment , weather can only be described as harsh. Today in minus 10C I took it for a ride and got ERROR5 maybe kilometer from my house. I reset and continued , error never happened again. As you can see I rebuilt display/controller completely. I used big switches so I am able to press them in thick winter gloves. Those switches are temporary only, they are cheap China crap no weatherproof and stick, bounce, etc. but cheapie. So I will replace them. Under frame there is battery /A123 20AH cells 12 in series/ and under battery box with EPLUS battery electronics. Winter tires of course. |
Nice rig.

thank you Andy.
my winter Eplus uses edrive I bought from Rick Ruggiero. If you know how to read from motor sticker....000164 very early one. It is rather very old motor I would say new old stock. Very few miles on it. Well not new , guess by tire wear and rimside I would say less than 100miles on it. Why it was never sold ??? Never installed on frame? the only reason I can think of was warranty return -for what reason? |
It could be a dealer demo system.
|
When I started riding it I understood why he had it.
Around 30-31mph motor jerks on occasion, it is back EMF sort of kick back, sort of misfire but always when it reaches say above 28mph - not a big problem for slow winter riding for me. Obviously warranty return. mY first EPLUS had similar jerking but it started to show at slower speeds ,I claimed under warranty maybe at less than 50km. they EMS sent me replacement motor which is more than 300 motors older. Reason for such behavour can be hardware /like misplaced hall sensors/ or software. Wondering how many motors were returned ?? There must had been more such returns for sure. Demo? In such pristine condition? |
There is an E+ on eBay:

Andy,
thank you for providing link. did you place any bids? If I consider buying I would have some questions to seller ,but with bids coming in is not going to respond for sure. First what production year/ when it was bought? the most important info missing: odometer reading. so used by city services, wondering how many different people were riding it? Auction company for sure knows how "prepare" for sale. they say allthis general things but concrete info missing and NO close up pictures. |
Andy,
my original Eplus charger started to act weird. Now went into blinking red - over temperature error. So I opened it. Gosh ,that's the one complicated charger, computerized one. Charging alogarithem on PIC chip programmed, Chip must had registered input from thermistor and generated error and now how to get rid of this error? |
you see bottomline is that EPLUS is not for everybody.
especially NOT FOR non-technical ,non-electrical ,non-electonics person. Example you have on this 2 last pages of this thread. He replaced cells and he thought he would just connected to NMH electronics and everything is going to work. Not so fast. By disconnecting string of 30 cells he put main PIC chip into specific mode. His NMH electronics are most probable OK. The next step is to go to that's chip datasheet and start reading like several hundreds pages of it. But it is written not in common English. Another problem with E+ is display/controller in which tactile switches will start failing generating all kind of errors. Rebuilding switches are really for handy person only. |
After months of dealing with two unusable Failco motors I reinstalled my Eplus system today. We pulled the boards from my spare front hub and so far it's working good. I put 10 miles on it today, the E plus is just so awesome.
