I would bid on the eBay auction if nobody else on this list wanted it. I don't really need another bike, but it would be good to keep it "in the family". I'll ask about the mileage. They say it is still working and was maintained, so it depends how bad someone wants it.

powell 01-09-17 11:09 AM

Metalman,
welcome back to the club.
I have now two Epluses, summer and winter.
Did you have off road FALCO 750W?
How does off-road FALCO behave at 28mph in comparison with EPLUS at 28mph --interested to know.
All I know that even at 30mph EPLUS still draws 1200-1300W according to display/controller.
Thermal cut offs are other issues I already read about, I know about them.
I am interested what happens when it reaches 28mph.
How is it with off-road FALCO?

Metal Man 01-09-17 02:37 PM

I'm still limiting what I say about Failco until I get my refund.

powell 01-09-17 06:12 PM

I see.

wrandyr 01-09-17 08:55 PM

The seller on the auction says the bike has 358 mi on it. Unfortunately for me, they want more than $400 to ship it. They are an equipment liquidator and all they know how to do is palletize it and put it on a truck.

powell 01-11-17 06:30 AM

Metalman,
What were the problems you had with your EPLUS before switching to Falco?
I know you had those cut offs but exactly what errors were displayed?

Metal Man 01-12-17 09:49 AM

I don't think it had error codes, just shutting down and wouldn't restart. It would turn on if I plugged in my spare hub. That's why we just took apart the spare hub and I am now using those boards.

Don't want to derail the thread, but I'm about 80 miles north of San Diego which, AFAIK, is where E+ was located. However, there never seem to be anything for sale even though I check from time to time. There must be a lot of parts (or bikes) around; why aren't people selling them (still using, saving for when they appreciate in price or ????)?

Metal Man 01-12-17 01:49 PM

E+ was located in Dulles VA just outside of DC. I picked up my bike there.

powell 01-12-17 02:39 PM

2old,
you are not derailing anything, thank you for input.
You right, there must be hundreds of EPLUS ebikes all accross USA , but some of them only in any working shape.
Many are with dead batteries.
Where I live Canada many people recklessly leave bikes for winter outside even in snow , how would you expect them to plug in charger couple of time during winter ??? they are reckless... and wasteful /how Alberta managed to accumulate multibillion deficit when barrel was 150USD?? at the sametime Norway at the SAME time saved 100billion USD in OilFund??/
also
we forget that EPLUS chargers fail at alarming rate and this even farther increase number of dead EPLUSes in NAmerica.
Of course very few would advertise broken stuff for sale, right? So trick is LOCATE those EPLUSes,but how ?
from sales records only.

2old 01-12-17 04:21 PM

Powell, thanks for the interesting input. You're right, sales records would be good, but everyone that sold them is out of business AFAIK. I was under the impression that some shops bought up the inventory when E+ was going under, but they must have sold their bikes/parts.

powell 01-12-17 05:20 PM

I had a list of Eplus dealers at least partial list , send emails couple of them, they answered back that they sold out long time ago.
By sales records I ment info on Eplus customers.
My first EPLUS I bought from JV Bikes, Vancouver and I bet they still have my address, tel on file.
Such a big crime to pass on tel. of client?

2old 01-12-17 07:23 PM

See what you mean and will try to see if I can locate any former dealers. They might call the customer and see if they still have the bike.

Thanks, a couple are pretty close; I'll start with them.

wrandyr 01-14-17 11:22 PM

To further diversify the thread... Does anyone know where the disk brake rotors E+ used came from? The mounting holes are on a larger diameter than standard rotors.

Metal Man 01-17-17 09:46 PM

Powell asked for the E Plus error code list.

powell 01-18-17 07:27 AM

thank you Metalman

Metal Man 01-19-17 02:27 PM

I finally passed 21,000 miles on the Big Dummy today. The E Plus is working great.

Thanks; don't know where I got the San Diego connection; maybe I was thinking about Tidal, but that could be errant too.

powell 01-31-17 08:52 AM

IF you got tired of braking down original EMS chargers here is the one which works with our EPLUSes.

I have initial reservation but hooked up to hub battery and it looks like it charges, it is less complicated than EMS charger for sure
it uses rise in temperature over time to detect end of charge and 8-hours time out.
Anyway charger works
EMS batt electronics registered charge and displayed 5 bars.

CE Mark Desktop NiMH or NiCad 30 cell with peak detect, )

Metal Man 02-01-17 04:42 PM

I have two E plus chargers I don't think I'll be using. If someone needs one let me know.

wrandyr 02-01-17 10:28 PM

chargers

Powell: Thanks for the link. I wonder how they detect temperature of the cells?

Metal Man: I'm interested. I have three chargers, but only one actually works. So far it has been the weak link for me.

powell 02-02-17 08:41 AM

PowerStream charger connects to E+ battery electronics which contain not one , not two , not three but 6 thermistors. Every 5-cell module has thermistor on small board called sense board, those thermistors are connected in series/paraller combination of around 15-18ohms.
I am sure any NMH 30-cell chemistry charger will work on our Epluses , first thing to check is thermistor requirement for such charger is.
Most NMH chargers require 10 -15Kohms thermistor as standard.

powell 02-03-17 09:13 AM

Like with all switch mode power supplies/chargers heat causes failures.
First thing when I get fully enclosed power supply/charger is to drill holes all around side of plastic enclosure like
2-3mm holes.
This increase longevity a lot ,
this PowerStream charger has no fun and enclosure is sealed - very bad for cooling.
So open it, drill plenty of small holes and it will last for sure longer.
