That's interesting. I used to get Error 5's when my system was newer. I had to unplug and replug the control cable until it started to work. It eventually stopped happening. It may have been when I still had the LiPo battery.

TH1 marked component is basically thermal switch marked 70C which opens at 70C.
originally this switch sit between cells.
such faulty switch might open at other temperatures
I do not need such overheat protection - no way temperature would reach 70C inside enclosure of my battery electronics.
BTW - did you send something to me?

For posterity and those who have wondered what the inside of the E+ motor looks like:

E+ motor, left side

E+ motor, left side, top circuit board removed

E+ motor, right side

thank you for picture of such excellent quality.
beautiful design of Eplus electronics - three phase configuration we can see from power board picture, 6 MOSFTEs for each phase, 3 shunt resistors , one for each phase /low resistance resistors/ for measuring current and all those curcuits for controlling firing MOSFETs at proper sequence.

just the update on my summer EPLUS drive powered bike.
just I understand my silence would mean EPLUS is dead - nothing of this sort.

another EPLUS record broken

I have ridden more than 55000 kilometers on ths ebike.
EPLUS is functioning just fine with minor issues:
sometimes display/controller does not reset DST /distance/ to zero
also
I replaced throttle at about 40000 kilometers - just mechanical wear out , nothing electrical

I am back !
this thread is NOT dead and not forgotten.
I ride my winter EPLUS bike at very least 4 days/week , sometime 7 days/week
through snow, ice and in minus 10C typically on some days in minus 20C.
of course studed tires
trips are usually short NOT because of bike but because of me.
incredible that such cold does NOT affects EPLUS electronics AT ALL.
of course original EPLUS nickel battery in front wheel is long, long gone
It is powered by Nissan Leaf 11-in series cells.

thank you for comment
of course for cold, cold winter riding you are going to wear thick bulky winter gloves. I wear heated gloves.
original EPLUS display/controller has this tiny switches - impossible to press when you wear winter gloves.
finding proper enclosure was not easy, but finally bought it from local electronics suppy shop.
it is weather proof, I used water- proof switches also.
transferring curcuit board - just the matter of soldering skills. choice of switches was the most important.
already 3 winters and all works just fine.

This thread is still going after 11 years. I still have my Big Dummy with the Bafang mid drive now. The bike has almost 24,000 miles on it. I think about riding it a lot, but just can't get myself out on it lately.

Free to a good home

I have two 1000W eplus setups that I’d like to give away to anyone willing to pay for postage (or free pickup in Denver). Both worked when last tried, but the batteries were tired. What their state is now I don’t know. Both setups are mounted to Tidalforce S750 frames but I will strip them off the frames (actually one is mostly off already). This is everything needed to run the system: battery, motor, wires, throttle and controller. Anyone interested let me know.

Metal Man,
thank you for starting this thread 11 years ago.
of course is still going as you said
BECAUSE EPLUS drives works forever when you convert them to be powered by modern battery chemistry.
Mechanical Quality of USA made drive is obvious.
silence when I ride my ebikes is great importance to me.

Oh....what a shame you're not in S. Cali, as I could drive over. I'm interested. I have three (3) dead E+'s. Shipping estimate to 91763? TY

I just want to let other EPLUS owners know
on my winter EPLUS I encounter glich, I would not call it problem.
after turning on power which connects battery to power board /lower circuit board inside original NMH battery/ I pressed power button on display/controller -
-result was ERROR 1 .
But when I waited 5-6 minutes before pressing power button initialization was OK , no ERROR.
I would call it inconvinance sort of that I needed to wait before pressing POWER button.
I am sure some owners would not figure out that they had to wait before pressing POWER on disp/controller.
what I described is no doubt communication protocol error between disp/contr and processing/contr board.
I replaced upper processing/control board and now there is no delay.

My system was prone to doing that when it was new. It eventually cured itself.

Eplus ebike drive uses RS-485 protocol for communication.
display/controller is a master, battery electronics and motor electronics are slaves.
when you press power button on dis/controller first thing it try to make "hand shake"with batt electronics and motor electronics, simply they have to report to disp/controller.
when batt electronics doesnt respond to display/controller inquiry it displays ERROR 1.
but it does many attempts before displaying ERROR1

just let any other EPLUS owner know that after winter my BIRIA EPLUS bike is back "in service",
I ride min 50km every day maybe except rainy days.
only glitches are that sometimes does not erase TRIP to zero or rather erase but it shows again on power up, so I have to erise to zero twice.
very minor , especially since I use Cycle Analist for all my statistics - total millage, dayly trips, Ah used , AH per km as so on.

I thought not just EPLUS owners would be interested.
Today I instlled new charger on my EPLUS.
On all my EPLUS ebikes I carry chargers attached to bike, no more " I forgot to put charger into my backpack"
I switched from 44V 10A to 44V 18A charger.
no name China brand charger
believe or not but there is NO any company name on it.
no spark arrest curcuit on this charger, so I build and added curcuit.
18A current is nothing for Chevy Volt cells.
yellow case is the PELICAN box, waterproof
please, feel free to ask any question

Electric Cyclery (electriccyclery.com), a shop relatively close to where I reside, opened in 2002. Their web site has a 2004 NYT article on e-bikes which mentions the Wave Crest if anyone reading this thread is interested. Kevin, the owner, had on display (and for sale @ $10K) a drag bike that went 97 mph in the quarter mile. The motor was from an industrial floor polishing machine AIR).

I just want to report that I rode on my EPLUS drive ebike over 57 000 kilometers millage , exactely 57 105 kilometers as of today !!!!
again it has not been without problems, I would say minor problems.
Display/controller sometimes would not reset TRIP kilometers to zero and I have to do it twice - minor glitch I would say.
I have Canadian-made Cycle Analizer which shows trip and millage quite accurately.
other than that my EPLUS is rock solid with USA-made quality

Wow, that's 35,000 miles by my math. I'm glad to hear you're keeping it going.

But....but, your S750 (Tidalforce) stepside bike was made in Taiwan, right? :-)))

Andy
yes, I posted about my summer EPLUS
I post above about my summer EPLUS - powered ebike. It is BIRIA frame with EPLUS mounted drive.
I believe EPLUS drive is NOT made in China, it is USA-made.
where was frame made - that is other thing.
what killed EPLUS was a persistance of Electric Motion Systems on using Nickel cells in front wheel.
wonderful, solid ebike drive was killed by using heavy, low energy battery cells.
also who can compete with cheap China labour

I never bought complete EPLUS ebike.
I only bought several EPLUS conversion kits.
yes, I bought complete Tadial Force ebike for use in winter, but it was not EPLUS,
since than I gave up on Tadial Force for winter riding and replaced it with EPLUS.
yes, frame of my Tadial Force might be manufactured in Taiwan.
