Is the current Bionx PL500HS slower than yesteryear's version?
I have a Bionx PL500HS and I see that Bionx currently has a PL500HS L selling. I assume the L means for long range.
Their site states that it has a top speed of 28 mph. That seems a lot slower than the version I have. If I lift my rear wheel and engage the throttle, it accelerates up to 42 mph. And I can feel that when I ride too. I can sprint down the flats at around 35 mphs when I can normally do only 28 on a regular bike.
Did Bionx reduce the top speed of the PL500HS? If I ever wanted to upgrade to their latest model, I'd likely not do that if the top speed got reduced.

Adam I have a few questions about your Bionx if I may? How is that 500 for range? I would like to put one on a long wheel base recumbent and use it for the most part to just cruise around 15 mph. I have heard it is not good for range. Also is there any power there for hills? Thanks.

At level 3 assist, I can get about 30-35 miles in one charge averaging about 21 mph on roads with a few hills. At 15 mph on a recumbent, you can probably get around 40-45 miles. I'm 150lbs and I ride a bike with 700x32 tires.
I've heard it's not great on hills, but I never test rode other Bionx models that are supposed to be good on hills, so I can't say how much weaker it is. All I can say is that it's good enough for me.
