Cateye Strada Smart +/- 60Beat Blue

About a month ago I purchased the Cateye Strada Smart and the 60Beat Blue Cadence/Speed sensor.

In general I like the idea of the setup, but I have a few issues with the implementation. Anyone have any experience with either of these units?

I have the following issues:
1. Cadence/Speed sensor will pair to the Strada Smart in direct mode, but will not stay connected or transmit data for Speed and Cadence. Every 30 seconds or so the "S" and "C" will blink, as if they are connecting but then stop working.

2. When I pair the Cadence/Speed sensor with my phone, and use the Strada Smart in mirror mode, I start to see some crazy things:
-Speed will constantly jump 7 - 15 kmh (i.e. I'm riding about 30 kmh and the speed will alternate between 30, 37, and 45 kmh)
-If I stop, i get some crazy distance "jumps" (i.e. today I warmed up for about 3 minutes then stopped for 2 minutes to adjust something, the computer said I had ridden 400 km)
-Both of these anomalies are nonexistent, or at least not so pronounced, without the Cadence/Speed sensor connected.

As far as I can tell the possible causes are limited to:
A. The sensor is a factory defect and I should try to send it back and get a replacement
B. The sensor is of substandard quality and technical specs and I should cough up the extra dough to buy a sensor of higher quality.
C. The Cateye App is garbage and until it's improved I will continue to experience such issues, no matter how much money I spend on a bluetooth cadence sensor
D. Somewhere, something is causing interference and messing with my signals.

I'm reasonably certain that the sensor is installed correctly and that the magnets aren't interfering with each other.

Anybody have any ideas??

Thanks a lot!

Looks like the same basic pickup unit sensors and magnets as the Strada Double Wireless. All I can suggest is to make sure the crank magnet is passing over the sensor within 3mm.

Would it have any negative effect if it was "too close", like under 1mm?

Nope but perhaps some kind of interference is possible -- maybe try resetting the ID code?
