The Schmidt white I had hoped would be a nice white for night time, but it was still kinda a weird white. Still a little weird on the eyes, especially compared to my gen 2 saferide.

has anybody bought their b&m lights from germany? i mean someone who lives in the usa? i bought one on ebay from a germany seller & it shipped on september 10. i'm still waiting for it. the tracking shows the 14th as the last update which says on that date it's supposed to be transported to the country of destination. i contacted the seller who i seem to have a language problem with as he really doesn't respond to exactly what i'm asking. does it really take this long to get something from germany? hell a flight from germany takes 11 hours, so i would think i should have had it by now.... the price was better from them compaired to getting it from peter white, but i'm starting to think i should just have done that.....

For what it's worth, my lighting setup is has no off switch for the tail light, and I leave my headlight on all the time. I don't perceive the drag that the electrical load creates, so I figure I might be making myself safer at a very low cost. It works for me.

ya maybe it's a customs thing. the tracking probably won't show customs delays. if it doesn't move by the end of the week i'll assume it's lost

I wonder of the edelux 2 uses the same led as the cyo premium since it uses the same reflector..
but they do hire the other guys to supply the parts for the features they developed
they get another company to make the aluminum parts .
its, Apparently a Co Operative arrangement.

Lumens is a directional measure of light output. If you have two lamps with 50 lux, the one with the more lumens will light up where you're going better, if you point it right.
Another way: a 50 lux candle has a lot fewer lumens than a 50 lux pencil-beam flashlight.

Lux is the total amount of light the lamp puts out, considering all directions. Lumens is a directional measure of light output. If you have two lamps with 50 lux, the one with the more lumens will light up where you're going better, if you point it right. Another way: a 50 lux candle has a lot fewer lumens than a 50 lux pencil-beam flashlight.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lumen_(unit)
The lumen (symbol: lm) is the SI derived unit of luminous flux, a measure of the total "amount" of visible light emitted by a source.
The wikipedia entry on lux was not very helpful:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lux
This page seems to explain the difference:
Difference Between Lux and Lumens | Gemini Lights
We use lumens to compare the total amount of light output from a light emitter...To measure lumens, we use a highly specialized light integrating sphere.
Lux is a unit of light measurement taking area into account. In other words, light intensity. We use lux to measure the amount of light output in a given area, where one lux is equal to one lumen per square meter. Lux is a great measurement for determining what we see as the brightness of a beam. If the light output is concentrated over a smaller area, we see this as very bright. If the light output is spread over a larger area, we see this as very weak...To measure lux at a specific location, we use a device called a lux meter.
Here's a picture I found as well:
So it looks like it's the other way - lumens is the total amount of light the lamp puts out, considering all directions. Lumens is a measurement of the intensity of the light in a certain area.

I believe you have it exactly backwards.

Cateye had a model that did that, back in the early LED/AA days. Model 520, IIRC. It won the advertising war (and fooled me into buying one), but it was worthless for riding.

i guess you just have to have some commom sense as a car headlight on low beam is 1000 lumens, so if a tiny flashlight states it's 20.000 lumens there's something wrong obviously...

Since my primary bike is Dutch I order a fair amount of parts from Holland. I was able to purchase a Luxos U and 2 Shimano roller brakes, with shipping, for less than what the light alone sells for here

I also ordered something from amazon germany...package got lost in transit. :-/ They send me a new one for free, but it's annoying.

now on i'll stick to american buying. it's not worth the wait & the good chance that the package can be lost. also if the item is defective then you have to send it back which would take long. the iq cyo premium sold on ebay (a german seller) for $65.00 with $5.00 shipping & peter white sells it for like $105.00 & shipping extra. great price but again not worth the wait....

Peter White is a cranky man and I don't like ordering from him directly. If it's here in the US, I've done Harris Cyclerly:
Your Search: "cyo premium" - Harris Cyclery bicycle shop - West Newton, Massachusetts
Prices are the same or a little lower, ordering is a lot easier and I talked to the people who worked there once and they were a lot friendlier than Peter White. Ordering from Peter White is a pain - you call and he probably doesn't answer, so you leave a message. You'd better be available when they call back or you won't be able to get ahold of them. You can't order online - they just don't have it. I got the feeling trying to return anything would be a similar pain.

Yeah, it's a dilemma. The Cyo Premium on amazon uk is priced at $85.05 US Dollars, shipped. Still have a 2-3 week wait for it to arrive, but you get better customer support if it goes missing.

ya bought just about all my stuff from peter white. he's really a butthole. in spite of that he only responds to my messages when he feels like it. i'm surprised peter white doesn't have a better attitude toward his customers seeing there's so many complaints about him on these forums & other bike forums. he's probably suscribed to a lot of them so he see's these comments. he also needs a better ordering system like an online form like anyone else has. anyway i will post an update to my system when it's all hooked up. i bought soem fancy plastic spiral conduit to cover the wires to make the installation look professional & neat....
Harris Cyclery still goes through him on ordering stuff anyways, but you don't have to deal with the guy, so that's what I've done so far.

Peter White is the US distributor for everyone else who sells these tires in the US. I know I've talked to bike shops that have said "we don't do those orders because we got tired of dealing with peter white".

since this is a dynamo light thread i was wondering if anybody here uses this light as it's pretty new: Bike24 - Busch + Müller Toplight View Plus Rear Light 321ASK-02
i currently have an older b&m toplight led light on my bike & i upgraded to this. the old light has a single led in the center surrounded with a reflector & the new light has 2 high power led's with the brake light function. just wondering if anybody as any opinions about it. how does it compare ot the old light in terms of brightness...

From Hollandbikeshop.com the Cyo premium plus is around $59 and the Luxos U $135, depending on exchange rate. Shipping is a flat $35 so I always wait until I want to order multiple items, sounds like a pain but bike stuff is way cheaper there with a much wider select.
I've ordered from them many times without issue or delay, and they take PayPal so there's no payment hassle. They have hundreds of lights to choose from.
Prices shown on site include VAT, put in cart and change destination to see correct price.
