Strada setup problems: returning in 3...2...1...
I bought a Strada Digital Wireless with Cadence today, Getting the unit/magnets/etc. on seemed fine, but setting up the computer turned out to be a massive headache. According to the manual and the online walkthrough, pressing AC and Mode together is supposed to reset the device to the Unit screen, which lets me select mi or ki, then through to tire size, time, etc. Only it doesn't. Straight to hours, then nothing.
I'm a reasonably smart guy. I used to write and test software. I should be able to figure this out, given that the whole device has three buttons. It just doesn't seem to work as described. No response yet from Cateye support. Is this kind of thing common, and should I exchange it for another Strada or just trade it in toward a Garmin Edge 25?
Thanks!

A Cateye Strada Cadence Wireless was the last bike computer I bought before I threw it away and bought a Garmin. Which I'm still using five years later. (Got a couple months out of the Strada.)
On the other hand, a lot of people love them, so it's possible yours is just defective.

I have it and you're right: the directions could be better and getting what you want takes persistence. I managed to change the wheel size and got the display I wanted: cadence as the big display. After that I lost interest in figuring out how to change the time to the proper zone but, I'll be golden if I ever move to NY. Also, it's not obvious but once you're set up there is a button (the 'dot section' at the bottom of the face of the unit) that toggles between the small displays--e.g., speed, odometer, trip, etc., and you hold it down to reset. Keep at it: you'll figure it out. Set up aside, I like it.
Taking a look at your manual sort of refreshes my recollection--e.g., setting the upper display: Menu-Menu-Menu, etc. until you see the big "zero" on the top of the screen; and then, Mode-Mode-Mode, etc., stopping on for example "CD" and, finish with the Menu button to register the setting.

I took it back to the LBS, and it appears that I just have a bum unit. They tested it, too. Screens 1 and 2 just aren't accessible. They were going to have to order another unit to replace it, anyway, so I just went ahead and paid the extra $70 for an Edge 25 with the Cadence pack so I can ditch the old Forerunner on my wrist.
