Bontrager trip 4w (wireless)

I have had this computer on my bike for over 2 years. It came on the bike when i bought it (used). I have yet to get it to actually work. I gave up on it for a while and a few months ago the battery died. So a few days ago I replaced both batteries. One in the computer itself and one in the sensor that mounts on the fork. I thought maybe it was a dead battery in the sensor this whole time. NOPE.

I went through the entire step by step process of setting it up per the Bontrager manual. It still does not read anything at all. It seems to be completely functional besides that. All the buttons work and I can scroll through and change settings without a problem.

Do I have to "activate" it for it to work?

Anyone here with this same computer have this problem or have some insight for me?

I've been using one for about a year on 2 different bikes without any problems. The sensor needs tone fairly close to the unit, within 18 inches maybe? Is the magnet pretty close to the sensor? Mine isasose as I could get it without touching.
