Instant speed readout

One thing that's not so good in my experience with ridewithgps on my iphone is that when I look down to see how fast I'm going, the readout is useless. It swings from 35 mph to 11 mph every second or so, and I'm sure the average of these inaccurate readings is correct, but I can't use this. I just noticed there is a setting for logging rate. I changed it from 2 sec to 10 sec, which is the max. I'll see how that goes.

Any insights?

What phone are you running this one, and what version of your operating system?

(I won't be able to help find the answer, but that's probably crucial info to anybody who can. The app asks your phone for its current location, and uses the location changes over time to determine your speed.)

I'm an IT professional for many years, and how silly I feel for not supplying this information. It's an iPhone 6S, purchased earlier this year. It has plenty of free memory, and I don't believe the CPU is overloaded. Right now, it's running iOS 10, but it was exhibiting the problem with iOS 9.x.

Mine does this as well with Endomondo and my phone which probably no one has ever heard of, a Blu Life One (Android 4.2.1). I just changed the field to average speed instead of instant, instant is pretty much meaningless and unusable since it bounces around so much.

I use MapMyRide with an iPhone 6 and itnwould spike from time to time. I recently purchased a Wahoo Blue SC and my speed and distance are rock solid now. It also gives candence. I actually purchased the Wahoo RFLKT along with a Wahoo Tickr HRM. It has been the best investment in terms of loggin data and seeing instant speed. Highly recommended and no more innacurate data.
