Fork Crown Headlight Mount

I'm just curious as to whether anyone else has a mount for their headlight on the fork crown. If not, what are some non-traditional, clever ways you've put lights on your bike, rather than mounting them on the handlebars or seat post? While this little piece of equipment may not have wow factor, it sure is extremely useful at getting light where I need it most - on the road!

I use the same ugly mount on my bike. It puts the light lower than my handlebar bag. Works really well for me. I like.

never saw that light before. I'm going to mount a light to a front rack, any day now. I have put taillights on a rear rack that I made. My son has that rack. I was going to work on the replacement rack tonight, but got sidetracked.

I believe the fork crown location is required in some countries. Dyno lights usually mount here. For battery lights I like this gizmo:

I have one of these mounts on most of my bikes. It's a great setup if you have more than one bike.

For Nitto front racks with rod-bolt struts, like Mark's Rack and M18, I drill and tap a Paul Gino to M6 and mount it on an extra Nitto rod bolt along with a Bellville spring washer

It's just a generic from-China type mount that I bought off Amazon. Here's a link to it if you're interested:

I have one of those too, I Put that on my front rack..

But since My Most used bikes Have Wired lights, I use a different B&M nylon mount ..

& on the Brompton a stamped stainless steel one to mount it's eyc T.

On my Bike Friday, I use a part in the steering tube stack...

Its Low, about where a fork crown light would be, So .. My Cycle Rain Cape won't drape over my Lights..
though it drapes over the handlebars..

L&M Urban mounted on the bottom of an out front mount.

I lust after these ANT+ remote contolled Bontrager ION lights mounted on the fork.

Clever stuff here! I have a few bikes with dynamo powered headlights, and they mount to the fork crown by default. It is an ideal location unless you have a front rack. I'd like to do what you've done, @bulldog1935. I can find the Paul Gino and knockoffs. Where do I find the Nitto rod bolt?

Nitto 20184
Rivendell has them Nitto Rack Hardware - Rack Nut & Bolt - each - 20184
Bens Nitto Rack Replacement Strut Mounting Stud & Bolt

Note this only works on M18 or Mark's Rack M1 with rod bolt struts. Can't do it on the racks with brazed struts (like Nitto M12).

I have an M6 cold-forming tap, which does this best. 7/32 drill removes the anodizing from the Nitto M5 guide hole and the cold-forming tap doesn't cut the metal, it rolls the threads. If you want to mail a Gino to me, I'll throw in the Bellville washer - I have more than I'll ever need. I've done this for a bunch of folks. $10? I'll send it back priority mail ready to install.

look through this photo album for step by step - https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/1...50793550867186

Here's the Marks Rack on my Viner CX

my CX frame has no holes or bosses for anything, and I mounted the Mark's rack using Tubus LM-1 clamps to the unicrown, and Paul rack bolts to the canti stud/brake. Had to get a pair of L-brackets from McMaster for the strut to the canti bolt. No diving board on this mount. This is only possible with Mark's rack because it has 4 bosses for Nitto rod bolts. Ely at Ruthworks made the front bag for me.
If you have cantis other than Paul, Nitto canti bolts would work for this.

something else neat that Rivendell sells, if you have an M18 with long struts to fork dropout bosses
they sell an M5 standoff washer that keeps the strut from contacting your fork (note you have to buy 2)
Rack Hardware - Thick Washer / Spacer, each

I am partial to the randonneuring light mount

I have one of these:

Randonneuring Light Mount for Diamond Frames : TerraCycle, Exquisite Recumbent Parts & Accessories

Terracycle has them and I like multiple headlights. I have never had three lights where all the batteries expired on the same commute. Two, yes, not three yet (knock on wood).

I used to use the fork crown mount when I had one bike, and a large halogen light. Now with three bikes. I use a quick release handlebar mount for my smaller LED light.

Big fan of the Minoura Accessory holder. Gives a lot of options for adjustability. Using it on the stem with a Niterider Lumina 650. Nice and easy to reach down to on/off and adjust settings. Hasn't moved at all in the 4 months I've been using it.

Would prefer a crown mount as it would get the light lower but the headshok has no crown mount points

Might have to pick up that Minoura. My lights are a little too overwhelming so if I dim them a bit and mount them lower instead of bar height, there is much lower chance of blinding/annoying oncoming traffic and cyclists/walkers.
